Toning up?

Hi everyone,

I have lost about 20 pounds over the past 3 months and am looking to tone up, especially around my midsection.

My clothes fit a lot better, but I feel like my belly doesn't really look any different. I'm wondering what steps I should take towards getting my midsection in shape and how many calories I should be eating?

  • First of all congrats on your weight loss thats great!!! I can't speak on the calorie intake as that is determined based on your weight and height BUT as far as toning your mid section I LOVE this workout https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08Bi8hMdwa4. Along with my diet, videos such as these have really been helpful for me. Plus I love that I am not on the floor doing crunches.

    You can neither spot reduce nor "tone" muscles. A flat abdomen comes from dropping body fat. If you are already at a healthy weight, then you probably need to start lifting heavy weights while maintaining a slight caloric deficit...this should give you the body you are looking for. :smile:

    might get better luck in the fitness section.

    but diet stuff doesn't lend to toning- just a loss of body fat.

    So the short of it is....

    muscle definition = lowered body fat + weight training

    A balance of CV training and resistance training.
    CV will improve your CV health and stamina, resistance training will help optimise your lean mass so reducing your bodyfat percentage.

    CV training also burns sufficient calories that you have a lot more flexibility in what you eat, so helping balance your intake.
