CN Tower Climb for United Way

Every year my workplace raises money for United Way, as part of that we participate in a CN Tower climb.
For anyone who is not familiar with it, it has 1776 stairs. Anywhooo.
I have decided I am going to participate this year (Oct) I have wanted to for years and always been too scared.
I have recently decided when it cones to fitness if it scares me ( not in a heights way ) that I should go for it.
I was wondering if anyone had done this climb or something similar, could you advise me on how to train for this.
I am 32, lightly active right now due to be on mat leave and at home in a deep freeze. By the time the climb comes I'll have spent 4 months riding 10k a day to work and am also adding weights to my current walking routine ( averaging 5-8 miles a day)
I also climb my stairs at home, 13, about 35 times a day.
Should I just fi,d the biggest stair case in the city and go nuts or is there more to it then that?
Any advice is welcome.
Thank You

Good for you, a challenge and a worthy cause. (FWIW my background is running, so this is not based on personal experience)
Do you have an office or apartment building close by that you could use for training? (My tri coach's favourite word is specificity......train by doing what you're going to do in the activity)
I'd also suggest checking RunnersWorld .com (or youtube) for exercises such as core, glutes & hips that will, most lilely0 help enormously.0 -
I don't have any apartment buildings but I do have a couple of really sweet outdoor stairs that are at least 100+. Once its warmer I can hit those. Start with a couple rounds work my way up to 17 ????.
I'll check out you tu e and runners world too.
