Cardio or Strength??

I still have 20 to 30 pounds to lose.
I was primarily doing cardio before and then last summer I added strength training to the mix as well. I love it and I am so much stronger.
. I know I am not going to add anymore muscle if I am focused on losing the weight I need to, but what sort of cardio/strength routine should I be incorperating to maximize my fat loss and maintain the muscle I have?

Im interested in this question too.
Ive never been able to sustain any HIT cardio workouts due to asthma But about a month ago I picked up some dumbbells and fell in love. :)
I do strength training MWF .....35min on elliptical T TH .....and walk around my neighborhood on SAT. Sundays I rest.
This is my plan so we'll see how it goes.

I need to lose about 25 lbs.

    Cardio AND strength

Both are great for fitness & health....but for different reasons

Cardio - heart health & stamina. Burns a fair number of calories....helps with deficit

Strength - muscle & bone health. May burn fewer calories BUT so important to strength train while eating at a deficit ....to KEEP existing muscle mass.

As you lose weight, your muscles (underneath a layer of fat) will be revealed. Don't wait to start strength training....it just makes the road that much tougher.

i would think you could continue to lose weight through ensuring you are at a calorie deficit, which does not have any impact on whether your choose cardio or strength training, except to allow you "more calories" due those burned through exercise.

if you love the strength training than make it the bulk of your workout plan. strength training can burn a ton of calories if you are pushing yourself and gives you the added benefit of making your muscles "stronger". As you state it will be unlikely that you will gain muscle but you should be able to maintain until you have achieved your weight loss goal and then as a poster stated, your muscles will start to stand out as the excess lbs are chiseled away.

do what you love, you will stick with it longer... good luck...

I really enjoy strength training so I am going to stick with it and continue with smaller amounts of cardio.
    Thx guys :)
