Need Some Inspiration

I know, I know. I am supposed to inspire myself. In 2011 I hit my worst, 342 pounds. Back in August of 2013 I finally had enough and by October of 2013 was down to 310, and I was logging into Myfitnesspal every day.
The holidays came, and skipping Myfitnesspal once or twice, then it became a whole week, now I am not on much at all. I have to do something. I now weigh 322.
Now is the time. I am 43 years old. When I was 310 a couple months ago I felt great. Back pain was gone, etc. Now I am creeping back up. I have a wonderful wife and kids. I guess I am lucky that I am 6'6" and can sometimes "hide" my weight well. But my goal is 230 which was my wedding weight. Diabetes runs in the family, my father died of a heart attack in 2002 at the age of 62. I am surrounded by constant reminders that I have to DO THIS RIGHT NOW but alas, at times, I am weak.
What kind of self control do I need to do this? And if there is anyone out there who has been successful, tell me, was losing the weight one of the harder things you have ever done in your life?

Don't be too restrictive. Eat your normal foods/foods you love, but keep them within your calorie goal. You don't have to feel miserable to lose weight. -That's my advice. Once I realized that, it was like the clouds lifting. I have found since then that losing weight is actually very easy. It's just all the mental junk that goes through your head is the hard part. :laugh:0

A lot of people on here set goal dates as well as goal weights - like 10 lbs in 5 weeks and then another - and it seems to keep them motivated. Personally, I tried that and when I didn't meet a goal, I got frustrated and depressed and tended to binge. So I have an ultimate goal which I will reach when I reach it but until then, just seeing progress is perfectly fine.
I think getting the mindset that what I do today is what I will always do, and being OK with that, has been the best thing for me. I restrict nothing (had a fudge iced cruller this morning!) but I monitor, cook a lot of fun yet healthy things and try to avoid those things and emotional states that trigger binging.

You need to always have self control. And that can only come from you!
Take that great feeling you had at 310 and use it to drive you. Take you, your wife, and your kids and use them to drive you too.
It is WELL worth it.
My boyfriend was 315lbs at one point and is now 270 (nearly all muscle) and feels soooo much better than he ever did.0 -

It's about moderation NOT deprivation.
There are no good/bad foods. Only bad eating habits.0 -
Also...when you get weak..don't feel sorry for yourself and feel like it doesn't matter anymore. Pick yourself up and do better next time you put food in your mouth! It's super important to move past your slip ups and not dwell on them.0

Do not think of this as a diet. This is a life change. You need to think of it as the way you plan to live from now on.
Unless you plan to never snack again, or never eat a treat, it is important to learn to work them in and learn to account for them.
This post was helpful to me. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1175494-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants
I still eat treats, but smaller ones. I still snack, but choose more wisely. If there is a party or event coming up, I work on my calories on the days before and after it to make it work. If I hit a plateau, I consider it a challenge! Lol
You can do this! Go look at success stories. They help me a lot!0 -
You need to make YOU the priority ...... figure out the foods that do & do not work for you ...... plan & prepare great meals ..... make the best choices possible when eating out ...... and make appointments with yourself to exercise every day (write it on the calendar if need be)
JUST DO IT :drinker:0
