A little bit of philosophy

From my friend, who is 43 and has terminal cancer.
"Nobody's problems are insignificant, because all problems are relative. My problem is that I have cancer. Your problem may be that you have no money, or no home, or a sick child. It may even be that your car failed its' MOT and will cost you to fix it, or that your roof is leaking, or you hate your job. The worst thing that you can do is bottle it up. Don't be scared to ask for help if you need it. You might not get it, but you just might, if you're lucky. You won't know if you don't try. Life's too short, I should know."

Do you rememer the sitcom Designing Women? The show ran during the Africa famine a few years back. Delta Burke's character (she was the "heavy" one) hosted an African child for a fund-raiser, I believe, during which she gave a speech. It's stuck with me to this day.
She pointed to the child and noted that this child lives in a place where people are dying of starvation, and her biggest problem was that she had too much to eat. Sorta puts things in perspective. Yes, obesity comes with its own host of health issues, but most are reversible if we do something about it in time.
I think facing a terminal illness and not being able to do a damn thing about it would drive me stark raving mad. I hope for a better outcome for your friend, or at least a peaceful passing.0 -
It really does put problems in perspective doesn't it. Great post. And prayers for your friend.0
