How come not a lot of people use sand bags?

They are the best exercise equipment to have especially for home. You can load them from 10 pounds to 300 or so. You will never outgrow it. They are much softer than dumbbells and barbels which is what I really like. Much more comfortable. They are tougher so a 50 lb sandbag is NOT the same as a 50 lb barbell. The sandbag is much harder. It doesn't take up much space at all. You can do cardio with it, strength or even both. I combine it with body weight training and it's a perfect compliment.
I only spent 100 bucks in mine around 2 years ago and it is the best investment I have made because I will have it for years to come.

We're using them as part of the strength portion of my tri club's training program.
I've been thinking of adding one to my home gym.0 -
My trainer had me try using one for clean and press for a warm-up but I kept falling over laughing because it was loaded so lightly.0
