Weight Loss andFat Loss help?

So i recently started up exercising and getting myself in the right direction towards reaching my goal in July and at the same time i've been reading constantly about dieting, foods i should avoid and the usual.
But one thing i keep getting mixed answers about is Weight Loss Vs. Fat Loss and the reason i'm concerned about this is because i can't really afford to buy myself healthier choices all the time due to the fact i'm a college student and i'm struggling to find a job at the moment.
What i'm curious about is, if i want to lose weight do i just need a calorie deficit and keep my eating habits in check whilst doing the usual workout routine? (i.e. Running, Jump Rope, Situps, etc.)
I've been reading about how people usually only do strength workout routines and have a strict diet to retain their muscle mass while losing weight, but i'm honestly not concerned about that at the moment, due to the fact i'm strictly focused on losing weight.
Long story short, can i just have a calorie deficit, make sure i don't go over the top with eating crappy, having a regular workout routine, and lose the weight i want to?

Simply...Yes. Everything works until it doesnt so try, see what happens, and adjust accordinglySo i recently started up exercising and getting myself in the right direction towards reaching my goal in July and at the same time i've been reading constantly about dieting, foods i should avoid and the usual.

Alrighty thanks, i really don't think i could juggle my personal issues right now and worrying about eating clean 24/7 or as much as i really should be.0

I don't eat clean. Never have. I don't think there is anything wrong with clean eating, but I just prefer other foods.
That said - what you do need to do is make good choices with what you have to work with. Higher protein, lower carbs to keep you full on a deficit. It's all about calories out vs. calories in...but also about some kind of lifestyle that you can do without feeling deprived or getting frustrated.0
