When I was "heavy" (5'5" and around 180 pounds), "big"/"baggy"/"oversized" pants made me look even bigger, compared with "no pants" (in the mirror, at least). Now that I'm down around 130, slightly too large pants make me look thinner than I do with "no pants" (in the mirror)?

Hmm... The only thing I can come up with is that as you lost the weight, your body morphed. As a result, the same style of clothing fits you differently. Since it's impossible to spot-train trouble spots, we tend to lose weight all over. Mirrors are deceptive anyway. (I look different in my full-length bedroom mirror than I do in the bathroom mirror.) You can always ask a trusted friend her opinion before you had out the door if you're feeling self-conscious.
) Congratulations on your success!
