Women new to weight lifting, need some guidance

So my husband bought a bench and weights. Now I have my very own weights!! Yay! Always thought of weight lifting but don't have time to go to the gym (homeschooling + 3 kids), so I want to keep on losing some weight but also tone/tighten all my body, specially the core/stomach. I am completley new to this and I am doing my own research, but since many of you have experience, please guide me in the right direction, how to start, any important info? Do I really need a spotter? TIA
