Should I use protein powder now?

I recently posted I felt hungry all day even when I ate all my calories (1200). I was advised to eat back all of my exercise calories and to eat more protein and less sugar. I noticed I need to eat more protein for breakfast to help regulate my blood sugar in the morning. My question is .... Is it a good idea to add protein powder so early in my weight loss process. I have lost 9-11 pounds in a month? Will protein powder help my weight loss or just help me maintain? I honestly don't know anything about protein powder.
