The "900 cals a day post" really blew up -- what about me?

I live a fairly sedentary lifestyle, I work a desk job, and hang out on the couch at night. I run three times a week though for 30 - 45 minutes. I'm looking to lose a bit of weight and MFP suggested 1220 for the daily calorie count for me. What are your opinions on this? I can eat 1220 calories a day and only feel a little hungryby the end of the night (a tall glass of water usually helps to quell this though).

I just want to make sure that I'm going about this in a healthy way (someone said they started losing hair at 900 calories, and 1220 isn't much more than that) and would appreciate your opinions. Thanks!

I'm a male, 22 years old, by the way.

Readjust your weight loss goals to something realistic like 0.5 to 1 pound per week instead of the 2 I bet you chose, and you will get a number of calories that you can live with ;) 1200 for a man, it does not make sense, unless you are extremely short.

Males automatically need more calories than a female in most cases. This is not sexist. It's just a fact of life. You really should be eating more than that. You didn't say whether or not you logged your exercise calories and ate those back, but you definitely should do that.

Eating 900 calories, regardless of gender is not going about it in a healthy way.

As a male though, you should be eating ALOT more. ALOT.

If you just want to be a smaller version of what you are now, still looking fat, but smaller then eat this way. Males generally should be getting 1500 calories minimum. Frankly, unless you are very short, you would likely lose at 2000 calories just fine.

Men have more muscle mass and need more calories than women. I believe I have read that the 1200 calorie minimum is for women and that men really should have at least 1800 calories!

Please make sure your stats were entered correctly, and check with your doctor before cutting your calories this low.
