Salt. salt. salt.

I have a problem. I love salty things.
However, I think this is ruining my diet/eating/not losing weight

How to curb the cravings? How to find things with low sodium?
its a hidden thing, and it sucks.

I try so hard to be good, and get things with lower sodium, but then i crack and eat a bag of pretzels.

It's always on the labels. Processed foods tend to have more than home prepared foods. Look for things labeled low sodium.

Why do you think it's ruining your diet?
I go over on sodium every day and it hasn't affected my weight loss at all, thank goodness.
    More details!

Start by not adding salt at the table or when cooking. Processed foods are notorious for sodium but there are often reduced sodium options available, you'll just need to read the labels. Canned soup is a bad one to watch out for, along with frozen dinners.

Everything will taste a little bland at first without the salt, so try adding other spices for flavor. After a while you will become so used to having less salt that having a full salt item, say at a restaurant, may taste overly salty to you.

You need sodium. Unless you have BP or heart problems, I don't think it's a big deal.

Why do you worry about it? Is there some medical reason you are concerned about?

Drink more water, eat a bunch of vegetables. Done and done.

I think its ruining my diet because that pretty much the only thing I go way over... I keep with my 1440 calories. I work out about 3 days a week. And I've lost 6lbs, but keep going up and down... i just think its water weight and bloating thanks to salt.
I'm trying cut down on frozen/processed food... I was on a soup binge for a while. I look on the labels, but I just crave salty things.

    :(

I drink a *kitten* ton of water,
I just worried about water retention really. No bad family history. I just always go over my daily recommend. everyday almost.

The fluctuating went may be water from sodium, but if you were also dropping fat you would see your trendling going down. For example (not that these numbers are necessarily accurate, but for the visual)

    144 lbs actual body mass + 5 lbs water retention = 149

    Lose mass

    140 lbs body mass + 5 lbs water retention = 145

    Lose the water weight

    144 lbs body mass + 1 lbs water retention = 145

Don't get me wrong, I see why you want to decrease your sodium, but that in itself is not going to stall your weight loss. I salt bacon, Fritos, and the PB portion of those nutter butter cookies for crying out loud. I know I must retain a heck of a lot of water, but it hasn't slowed my fat loss any. I almost always eat at least twice my daily MFP recommended sodium intake.

Its gone down from 153 to 145 ... but yea, somedays its 147, some its 149...then back to 145... so I am still trending down (goal never to see over 150 again)

Good news is that salt can't stop fat loss. More good news is that if you don't have a medical reason to stay under the daily guidelines, you don't have to. More good news is that salt makes food taste delicious. Let yourself include it in your meals and I bet you will crave fewer calorie dense snacks with them. Nothing to feel bad about, either way.

*I even use a pinch of salt in smoothies because it brings out the sweetness.
