I use a half cup of canned pumpkin per banana called for in the recipe.
    I also use applesauce!

Baked sweet potato works too if you have one to use. Depending on the time of the year, either canned pumpkin or sweet potato may be less expensive.

  • Funny, I don't put bananas in anything except banana bread.
You can substitute bananas with one of the following:
Sugar and butter creamed together, apple sauce, baby food such as prunes, mashed carrots or sweet potatoes. You can play around with different ingredients and see what you like best. Different substitutions will work differently depending on the recipe. If you're trying to avoid butter and sugar in baked goods then you could read "normal" recipes and replace the butter and some of the sugar with apple sauce.

Banana peels make me gag. True story.

The pureed pumpkin and applesauce sound like good alternatives.

I'm pretty sure that you're not supposed to eat the peels

Actually, if you are eating fruit for it's nutritional value, you should eat the peels too. In many fruits, including bananas, most of the nutrients and vitamins are in the peel.

I'm pretty sure I'm going ok without choking down banana peels, but tyvm for your concern

Bananas usually function as a binding agent so you can replace with any other gloopy/starchy stuff that goes thicker when cooked: mashed sweet potato or potato, pumpkin puree, crushed pineapple, ground linseed or chia mixed with water, eggs, um....I guess it depends on the recipe and what sort of flavour you're looking for. Experimentation is the best way to find out. Then you get to sample lots of yummy "mistakes" along the way!

I've heard applesauce can be substituted.
