the great journey in search of rice

I'm not feeling really great today. My food has been bland and comfort sort of things I normally don't eat often.

Tonight my dinner was yogurt and plain white rice.

While that sounds simple enough to log, I scanned in the yogurt label. Easy and done.

My rice is stored in a canister and the barcode is long gone. I weigh out my rice and enjoy.

Then go to enter this simplest of food into my diary, and face the most epic quest I have ever encountered trying to log it in.

First entry I found the person who entered it is delusional and thinks 1 cup is 10 calories.

Moving on I go to the next one, they have decided that 1/2 a cup is 598 calories.

Really?! Ok, regroup and try again.

Next up on the ridiculously delusional scale, with no less than 13 people confirming this one, 1/4 cup of rice is supposedly 350 calories.

I'm confused. baffled and frustrated. I already feel like death reheated on a cracker, And the hunt for rice has taken longer now than to eat it.

I finally give up on the incredible data-base and go to the Mahatma website and get the calorie count from them. Back to the data base armed with how much I ate 30 minutes ago, click on every single rice entry in there until I found one that matched up to Mahatma's info.

I feel victorious. If it gets lost in my diary list, I may never bother to eat rice again, it was way to much trouble to find it and log it.

I just want to meet the person and live in their world that assigns 10 calories to that serving of rice. Because I would hazard a guess that in their world Ice Cream would be a negative calorie food.

The person that assigns 10 cals to a cup of rice is probably the same one that posts "eating 1000 cal/day and not losing".

    LOL!!

I know what you mean by just wanting to not eat rice again if it gets lost in your list! Rice is yummy, though... I can only cook it properly in a rice cooker. I'm a good cook, otherwise :glasses:

I am not sure why you are having this issue. I picked the first white rice option for medium grain on the list in MFP system and it said 254 calories for one cup of rice. I suspect the very high number of 1/4 cup = 350 calories is uncooked rice. After you do this enough you will know most of the common foods by heart in terms of calories. Good luck!

ahahahahaha... this is classic.... in all seriousness this happens to everyone... me included... the solution... listen to this.... PLAN AHEAD OF TIME.... I usually log my foods or the foods im going to eat a day before when im relaxed, just ate and sort of digesting the food I just ate... for example right now i just had lunch and relaxing and decided i will read some messages on here.... now with your logging the foods... needless to say that if you did the logging last night or the days before when you had so much time to find out the correct nutrition information on the food you are going to eat this shouldnt have happened, now lets get realistic, i know sometimes it does happens when you have to log the food on the day so for goodness sake.... EAT FIRST so you have the patience when you do have to find the right datas... but as i said the best way is to PLAN AHEAD of time.... ' failing to plan is planning to fail.'

and on the issue of bland food.... you shouldnt be eating bland food at all... unless of course you are on the last stretches of your journey wherein all calories matters even then... PLAY AROUND with some herbs and spices for example italian herbs/mixed herbs i use on everything meat, fish, poultry.. you'll find that walden farms sauces and dips are low in calories... I HAVENET seen your diary so this is just assuming you are not doing the 1000 calorie a day diet of some sort... but really you shouldnt be eating bland foods, its all about planning and budgeting your calorie intake for the day... FEEL FREE TO see my diary to see what i mean. goodluck.

Hmm there you go. My white rice is 170 calories for 1/4 cup, uncooked, according to the package. That 350 calories seems very close to 2x my 1/4 cup serving size. OP, are you sure the listings weren't for 1/2 cup?
