Breaking up with Fast Food and Soda

Hello MFP friends!
I just joined this site tonight and thought I would introduce myself and a few aspirations.
I am a 22 year old male living in Virginia and I love life! Everything seems perfect except the lack discipline in my life towards my physical well-being. I want to be a life coach for my profession so I figured the best thing I could do is make myself my first client. My goal is less about losing weight as it is growing as a young adult and learning to live a healthy life.
My father passed away from cancer of the colon largely because of his poor diet. It is time to learn from him one final time and change my habits. To do so I took a couple of steps:
1. I wrote a break up note to McDonalds and Coca-Cola telling them that our relationship is over. It was a fun experience that allowed me to express all that they have done for me negatively and why I am going to stay away from them in the future. I wonder what the people at those companies will think when they get my break up letters in the mail :P
2. I am no longer playing high school sports. Therefore, I need to find new exciting ways to stay in shape. I will go to the gym 4 times a week and get cardio workouts in 2-3 times a week.
3. I now plan my entire day of eating before I begin. Inputting my food diary the day before allows me to make sure what I'll eat is good for me and under the calorie limit AND it helps me stay to those foods because they are already in writing. So tomorrow I have egg on whole wheat toast for breakfast, salad and a pear for lunch, and chicken with rice and green beans for dinner. Knowing this makes it soooo much easier!
4. At my desk at work I have a checklist for each day. This checklist counts the cups of water that I consume. I am going to make it to 8 a day if it kills me. This means no soda, no sweet tea, and no gatorade. Water is all I need.
5. I am now using MFP! Hopefully this site will keep me accountable. I also hope I can meet some people with similar goals that can help keep me moving towards the goals I have in mind.
Thanks to everyone and good luck on this journey. Congrats to those that have already reached their goals! Keep up the hard work

Havent eaten at a fast food restaurant since I first changed my eating habits about 20 months ago. Reduced sodas to about two or three a month (although I have two sugar free energy drinks a day). I believe thats where most of my weight loss came from.0

Sorry to hear about the loss of your father. :flowerforyou:
Congrats on taking steps towards a better and healthy you! I love that you wrote break up letters to McDonalds & Coke... that is so funny. Maybe I should write one to Taco Bell  Anyways, keep doing everything on your list and I know you will make it to your goals!0 -
You are so organized! You will succeed. I broke up with Coke a couple of years ago - replaced with Propel which seemed to be the only thing that satisfied for a long time. Now I drink water, Arizona Green Tea Pommagranate (powder tubs makes a pitcher)and an occasional Hansen's Diet Root Beer. Never caught the fast food craze - I like real food. Welcome and best of luck!0

Welcome Austin,
Don't be surprised if you receive vouchers from these big companies. They want to lure you back in and hook you straight back up. It's just nasty stuff they serve and they won't let you go easily.
Stick with us, we will protect you.
Good luck.0 -
Way to go! Break up letters, that's a really great idea! I should do that as well. The first two weeks are the hardest to stay on track, but if you can make it through those 14 days, you will find you don't even WANT to go back to eating all of that junk. Good for you!!0
