Working out with a sprained ankle

So, I went on a hike last night and rolled my ankle. I have what feels like a mild sprain and am trying to figure out (besides biking because it isn't an option) what kind of exercise I can do.
I'm wondering if I wrap it good if rollerblading or the elliptical are OK to do. Has anyone done those with a mild sprain?

I would stick with upper and core body strength training. You don't want it to get worse.
Make sure to RICE( rest, ice, compress, and elevate.)

OK. I guess I'm just going to have to live with it until it heals. I was hoping some low-impact stuff would be OK, as long as I had it wrapped.0 -
as annoying as it is when we injure ourselves..you've got to think its better to rest for 2-3 days than work out and make it worse which could put you out for 1-2 weeks... i pulled my back a few weeks ago and was very annoyed but i took a week off and its better now! i knwo its very frustrating but rest is the best !0

Jillian Micheals says punches are a good cardio if you have knee/ankle problems. It does get your heart rate up! Stand feet shoulder width apart and squat (if possible, you will burn more calories). Hold your abs tight and punch right, left, etc. There are different variations of punches you can do, I am sure you can look them up online for free or I bought the $9 video at Walmart - Jillian M.- banish fat, boost metabolism. It is worth it! There may be some sections you wouldn't do because of your ankle but it is an option for you! Good luck. I love kickboxing exercise--even if you don't include the legs0

Seems like this would be a great time to strength train and work on your abs.
Use the time to learn new exercises. The punching idea seemed great.

From someone that has had ankle injuries. Get a really good brace. One that laces up is the best. Let it heal a little do circuit training upper body. Try the elliptical. Also I did a great workout through Bodyrock.tv.com. It was a great workout high intensity low impact and I did that with my brace with some biking as it healed and got stronger.0

I wish I had a bike. That would solve the problem. Or a gym membership. I hate going to the gym, but it would be nice right now.
I've been working out hard core for three years now and this is my first injury. I've fallen on my rollerblades and walked (rolled) away with not even a scratch.
It's really bad timing because I had an inexplicable 2-pound gain this week and the past couple days have been HUNGRY days, so this is really bad timing for an injury. :ohwell:
It's not bad. It's not even swollen, really, just sore. Hopefully it will heal fast.0 -
I recently did the same thing. it hurts when i get up from bed but the pain dies down. I am going to try biking tonight.0
