Long shot - MPFL reconstruction?

Figured it was worth asking - anyone have any experience with a MPFL reconstruction surgery? My dr. suggested it since I have been having a lot of knee issues and instability. I tore most ligaments in my knee when I was 16 and now almost 15 years later I am paying for it. The surgery wasn't around when I was younger and PT isn't doing much, but I am very hesitant to jump into surgery. Thought I would ask.
