Overate yesterday, should I compensate today?

Hi everyone. I've been dieting quite well now for the past four weeks, usually eating around 1400 kcal a day. But last night I was so hungrey, I just couldn't sleep. I had two whole weat slices of bread, a teaspoon of peanut butter and an apple, and then I feel asleep right away:smile: When I woke up this morning, however, I realised that I'd overeaten and kind of felt guilty. My question is, should I substract those kcal for todays allowance, or just move on and stick to my diet today. I had about 300 kcal extra. Thanks for the advice.

if you were so hungry you couldnt sleep, maybe you should eat a bit more than 1400 cals per day anyway?

your ticker says you only want to lose 4kg, so you dont need a massive deficit, which 1400 probably is for you (unless you are very small and sedentary). work out your TDEE and then take off 10%.

i would eat normally today, dont punish yourself for eating when you were hungry!

Just move on. It's not even enough to make a difference.

Honestly, 300 isn't worth worrying about. Just continue as you were.

But.....why were you hungry? Are you getting enough protein? Drinking enough water?

A lot of people just average their calories out over the week, so if you feel the need to claw them back then you could even just drop 100 calories one day, 100 the next etc. If, however, this causes you to feel exceedingly hungry then you risk the same thing happening again. Or, you could just forgive yourself and move on, today's a new day etc. I tend to go with the claw-back, but not everyone's as wound up about these things as me! You know yourself best, so you need to decide.
  • Thanks for the advice! It was pretty bad because I was awake till 3 or something. I'm relatively small now, and near to my goal weight. Myfitnesspal told me to eat 1200 kcal a day, for a small loss each week, but I found that to be too little, and so I deicded to do 1400 plus some cardio. I've read about that systtem on the forum, but haven't looked into it yet, I will do.

Thanks for the input  I think I was just hungry through dieting? I've been fine for most days, but after four weeks it kind of builds up... And I do drink a ton of water, protein is low according to MFP, but I try and keep it high as possible.

MFP sets protein very low, so if you arent even hitting that goal then you arent eating enough!

Over-consumption followed by restriction is likely to lead to a poor relationship with food. I'm speaking from experience. Just eat how you normally would the next day
  • That makes sense, I guess; I mean, you won't probably gain or lose weight over a day, but only over a period of time depending on your average intake. I think that this time I'll let it go, but if it happens again I might do this, as otherwise I'll start to feel guilty.
