Question about fibre.

According to my reports from MFP I rarely get to the recommended 25 grams of fibre a day.
However, I am not sure if all the food entries include their fibre amount.
I do have a bowel movement at least once everyday.
Is that sufficient evidence that I am getting enough fibre in my diet?

Fiber is mainly for satiety and other gastrointestinal purposes. As a rule of thumb, aim for 10-15g per 1,000 calories. I get most of my fiber from fiber one cereal, potatoes, and Quest bars. It's pretty easy to get adequate amounts this way in my opinion0

If you're regular then do not worry. It's not good to over do the fiber!
Also when you do eat fiber in your diet try and make it soluble & fermentable (veggies) as opposed to insoluble (grains - cereals) - your gut flora will thank you.
I've attached a link to FODMAP (fermentable carbohydrates) - It shows the good foods and the not so good foods..
Happy pooping!!!

I add 1/3 cup bran buds to my yogurt. This gives me 11 g of fiber and helps me stay full until lunch.0

i agree with tennisdude, for some too much fiber is not too good. It can cause bloating, gas, abdominal distention, water retention, it also makes some nutrients digest and metabolise at a slower rate. On the up side, it does help for some to curve insulin spikes. But what the heck do I know. Nothing !!0

Are you talking soluble (fermentable) or insoluble fiber?0 -
Both. As I have stated before, everybody is different. Some can eat 2 cups of oatmea and a gallon of water and look like they have not eaten all day. Others can eat a dozen donuts and look like they have the pipes of Flex wheeler. I look at a bagel and I look like Elvis did at the end there. I agree that the best place for people who get stomach discomfort, and other side effects are better of getting their fiber from plant sources.0

Currently most of my fibre comes from fruit and vegetables, so that is good.0

Yep that's perfect.
The more you can stay away from grain based fibers the better for your stomach and gut flora (sounds like quite a nice thing when you call it that).
