adding weights

Bonjour!

I am relatively new at this, but i have seen that incorporating weights into an exercise regime helps a lot.
i would like to do this, when i was a student, with very little money, a friend showed me an easy way to make my own weights-fill up two 1.5L bottles of water with sand and it worked.
but now i am working as an intern (still have very little money) and the only way i have managed to add any exercise is by walking to and from work. it would be weird carrying my bottles of sand, so i am wondering if any one has any ideas for DIY weights i can use when walking to work and back home.
(please be gentle) :)

Wear a backpack with heavy stuff in it. Make sure it's strapped to your back properly. It will be like a weight vest :)

If it's within distance, walk to you grocery store and do bicep curls w your grocery bags on the way back home.
Also you could fill up your purse

On amazon.com you'll find a book called Convict conditioning by Paul Wade.
No weights required AND as little room as 6x6 to complete all exercises.
