Giving up Alcohol for Lent - Losing Weight with PCOS

Hi y'all!

New here, I've had this application for a while but I've never really used it. I've decided to use Lent to help jumpstart a weight loss routine for me.

Let's start with me in a nutshell:
I've been on a weight plateau for a long time. I have PCOS and I find it extremely difficult to lose weight. I really decided to change my life about a year ago. I work my *kitten* off about 5-6 times a week, eat a slow carb/low carb diet and haven't lost a single pound. I KNOW it's all about the measurements. I KNOW. And I have lost a number of inches all around; however, I'm tired of weighing 150lbs at 5"4. I don't consider myself fat. Maybe "skinny fat?" I just want to slim down a bit.

Wine is my lover. And I sometimes have 2-3 glasses every night of the week. I've decided to give all alcohol up for Lent and see if that has an effect on my weight loss.

I had to take a mini break on working out for the last two weeks while taking the Bar Exam. I'm back at it today with the beginning of Lent. Anyone with me? Has anyone else given up alcohol and had a positive effect on your weight loss? Thanks :)

First of all, I wish you the best on your bar exam. I decided to give up wine for Lent as well. I didn't see the point of giving up sweets or fast food because I rarely eat those things anyway, nor do I really have any craving for it. The only two things that would make Lent sacrificing worthwhile for me would be to give up coffee or wine. I don't think my wife would want to be around me if I gave up my morning coffee so I'm choosing the wine. I would also be a bit surprised if I didn't drop a pound or two because as you probably know, wine is high in calories but a nice merlot in the evening is enjoyable for me. Cheers (with a coffee mug) of course.

I pretty much stopped drinking alcohol when my husband and I started seriously dating 8 years ago (he is a recovering alcoholic, his 12 year anniversary is this St Patrick's Day). Not because he asked me to or anything...but out of respect for him.

I wasn't a HUGE drinker before that, but I did go out most weekends and had 2-3 drinks (one weekend night, not both), and if I went out to dinner with friends or family (at least 2-3 nights a week), I would have a glass of wine one of those times.

I can't say if it had any effect on my weightloss, as I wasn't really caring at the time. But I know I do NOT miss it, and on the rare occasion that I DO have a glass of wine, I make sure it is a tasty vintage, take my time drinking it, and really enjoy it. :flowerforyou:

ETA - On the RARE occasion that I drink now, it is outside the house (pretty much Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas dinner, and Easter dinner - basically the 3 days a year when I'm not really tracking my food). I prefer to eat my calories vs drink them.
