Gained weight but I look more fit?

I have just taken my measurements. I lost 10 cm around my hips, but have gained about 10 pounds... I started running about 2 months ago, but does it really make sense to be heavier but to have lost cm around my hips? I'm a bit confused...
How can I lose weight by running? All I do is gain

Yes. Thats why so many people here advocate TAKE MEASUREMENTS b/c the scale is not a good indicator of sucess. I actually gained weight and lost inches as well. Muscle takes up less space so as you burn fat and gain muscle you may gain a bit of weight but actually shrink in size.
However, running two months would not put on 10lbs of muscle. Are you doing other workouts too?
HIIT training is a great way to lose weight by running. But I would also suggest more strength training!
And don't always go by the scale -its a great guideline but pictures and measurements will always tell the truth!0
