this is what i bring hiking:
pb & j sandwhich
and any of these:
fruit (either grapes, banana, apple or cleminines)
sunflower seeds
granola bars
banana oat cookies0 -
I would take things like protein bars, jerky, trail mix - stuff that will sustain being bounced around and making sure it stays cool and also lightweight and not bulky0

Ham or turkey wrap, string cheese, baby carrots, grapes or apple slices, mini dark chocolate or cashews. I drink water but this is what I usually take. Have fun I'm iced in thinking about warm and hiking0

I freeze Gatorade bottles that are 1/2 full. Top off with water, and it talso keeps your food chilled0

What kind of day hike is this? I do the La Luz trail here in about 4 hours at a moderate clip and I easily burn around 2000 or so calories just with the hike...that doesn't even include my basal calories. I'd highly recommend more than a mere 450 calories, you could wind up flat on your *kitten* and stranded.0

I second this. Here's a good resource for calculating your hiking calorie needs: http://hikingdude.com/hiking-food-supply.php
Always carry a few spare sugary snacks. If you don't need them, you've done it right, but don't set foot on a trail without them.0 -
Bananas, muesli bars, fruit and nut mix and most important of all - chocolate!0

I will be hiking one of the trails in Sedona, AZ. I have not decide which one yet. Will be hiking for a couple of hours. I live an hour away from Sedona. Will have breakfast and dinner at home and then eat lunch on the trail. I plan a moderate hike.0

Please take more food than 450 calories. If you end up not eating it, fine, whatever. But, you really really really need to ensure that you have enough food, and 450 may not cut it. I know it wouldn't be enough for me or my husband. Pack good high calorie tasty snacks; jerky, trail mix, etc. in addition to your lunch.0 -
