How much is too much?

Hey everyone!
I've been weight training religiously every other day now for about two months now. I push myself to the max for about thirty minutes doing a full body workout and have seen amazing results. Now I want to incorporate HIIT training into my workout plan. I just did my first HIIT workout today and it kicked my *kitten*. I only did 30sec intense/1min rest five times but I was seeing stars after! My lungs are punishing me for 5 years of heavy smoking, I only gave up a couple weeks ago so they're far from functioning at their full capacity!
Anyways, my questions are this:
Can I do 1 day intense weight training, 1 day HIIT without a rest day? Is this sustainable?
Should I feel like I'm about to faint after a HIIT workout? Haha it might seem silly but can you push yourself too hard during a HIIT workout?
In case it helps, Im 18, female, 5'4 and 110lbs. My goal is to build muscle and to feel myself get stronger every day.
Thanks for answering (:

as long as you're fueling these workouts, you'll be fine. 3 x weights and 3x HIIT with a rest day isnt too much.

if you want to build muscle though, you need to be eating at a surplus, and all the HIIT does is mean you have to eat more.
  • Yes, you can do it, but keep sure your eating enough calories to keep your body full of energy/vitamins/mineral.
And it's pretty normal to faint/puke after an HIIT session, especially if it's your first times doing it.

    Cheers

Awesome, thanks! Could you give me an estimate of the amount of calories I would need per day? (Assuming I don't take a rest day)

Haha good to know! I spent 15 minutes in the bathroom after the workout with my head in the toilet just in case I threw up x)
I didn't, luckily. Sorry for that mental image haha

You certainly need a rest day each week, as well as probably a rest week after every 3 weeks of training at your age. A rest day and rest week does not mean no movement, but you do things like "active recovery" rather than hard training. If not, you're going to burn out and the soft tissue needs time to repair so you can move on to the next block of training.

I would suggest taking some time to read up on active recovery, rest days, rest weeks, etc... before you develop injuries and burn out.
