This is a long blog post with a bit of NSFW language, but it's worth the read. It outlines the weight loss myths that many women believe, in part because of the way weight loss is marketed to us.
It also highlights the methods that are successful - coincidentally the very same methods used by a lot of successful MFPers.

TL;DR if you don't want to read it:
• 1200 calories/day isn't a magic number for weight loss success.
• Calories too low for too long = bad for your body.
• Diet industry tells women calories are the enemy!
• Women are told to drop calories & pounds but men are told to build strength.
• Toned = muscle and muscle = good!
• There's no reason women should strength train differently than men.

this was a great article and i do totally agree. i have to say that somedays it is extremely hard for me to eat 1200 cal...im simply not not hungry. other days i could definitely eat 1800 and be satisfied. im trying to ignore this but i do get frustrated when im way below, have exercised and still can't force myself to eat. don't get me wrong,,,,this isnt always the norm for me but im just saying somedays are harder than others!0
