I don't eat the rind of a watermelon, usually dispose of them. Noted that 100g of melon is about 30kcal. I am using a food scale to measure my food and am wondering if that 100g is including the rind, or just the flesh itself?

Thanks y'all!

when I weigh any fruit or vegetable I look for the USDA values. It is more accurate and tells you how it is to be weighed. A tip I read here. Meats are the same way USDA if at all possible, and always by grams.
  • I would say without Rind. However, with smaller skins fruits, I would usually add by per fruit rather than by weight.

I look for "flesh only" weights.

I would think that the calorie value of 100 g of melon would be just the flesh (does anyone eat the rind??) but either way it probably doesn't make a whole lot of difference since there are so few calories in melon anyway! If you wanted to, you could include the weight of the right and that way you would always be slightly overestimating, which is better than underestimating! :-)

As far as I am concerned the rind is not readily digestable I remember belly aches when I agree it as a child. I cannot believe people eat it! My tip is just count the flesh weight. A quick google says people use the rind to make a kind of jelly, way to much trouble in this day and age I think.
