Advice on getting back to running after an ankle injury?

I had a ankle injury where I landed on my ankle (jumped over a fence - didn't twist it), no idea what happened, but I felt chills and I felt a considerable amount of pain whenever I stepped on the injured foot, now the pain has almost gone completely (it's been like two months) and I want to return to my running regime - what is the best approach to it?
I'm a heavy dude(mostly muscle mass, but I do pack some pudge), 92kg/175cm, I used to run 5-8km's a day every day which is what I thought contributed to my injury.

how can I do it right this time?

It sounds like you didn't get medical treatment which means the injury may not be fully healed yet - "pain has almost gone completely" which would suggest a conservative approach.

Short ,slow runs to start and monitor the pain level closely - even if it doesn't get worse I'd ice the affected area after runs and if it does get worse stop immediately and see a sports doctor. You may have actually broken something jumping the fence......be patient with the recovery and return to running.

Walking start with Brisk walking then if that is feeling OK slowly start introduce running for a short distance then stop and walk again, basically do a version of a walk run program
