strength training make you hungry?

Anyone else get really hungry the day after strength / resistance training?
I work out at home so am just doing body weight and kettlebell workouts. I do my workout before dinner, so after I still eat plenty. Last night I had my dinner and a snack, I think a good 500-600 calories.
It’s 9.40am here and I have eaten breakfast and a snack and my lunch that is sat in the office fridge is calling my name!! It seems to be a regular thing for me.
Is there anything I can actually do post workout that will help with the hungry feeling the next morning? Or would I perhaps actually be better working out first thing? I could get up early and work out but it would need to be on an empty stomach as I leave the house at 7am after getting the kids up and ready.
Or am I just been a greedy sod and need to get a grip??? Haha.

I do strength training in the morning before work and you're right it always makes me hungry. But the same day, not the next day. Annoyingly, I find cardio seems to suppress it, so I generally go back to the gym at lunchtime for a quick 30 minute session on the stairmaster or elliptical. Drinking lots of water helps too. But yes, I have scoffed 750 calories before 10am this morning!0

Yeah I figured if I switched to morning training I would be hungry at some point during that day instead of first thing haha.
Cardio is same for me, I do cardio the same time in the evening and although I have dinner later that evening I am not overly fussed for it.
Guess I just need to suck it up and step away from the biscuit jar haha.0 -
Of course you're hungry, you're building muscle. I'm hungry as **** after weightlifting, especially after training legs, then i'll be hungry for days after.0

Yes it makes you hungry, it's supposed to because you are burning a lot of calories. The key is finding balance. Eat, but don't over eat, if you are always hungry, that's not a long term sustainable situation.0

yep... makes everyone hungry. it's simply the body asking for fuel.
I've found that whey shake and oatmeal...deals with it pretty fast and clean.0 -

not building muscle eating at a deficet...esp with the OP being a woman.
To the OP I don't find I am that hungry anymore...not sure if it's because I've been lifting for 6months or if it's the food I eat..
I looked at your diary...it's a bit sporatic..but your protien is pretty low that might explain it.0 -
I go to a womans weights class and I'm hungry half way through the class (normally right after the clean & press), I tend to have some milk or nuts within about 10min of finishing for the high protein/fat content.
I'm normally ok the following day, but after 30min of weights I'm looking for something to eat!!!0 -

Been lifting for a year and you're right. First few months were brutal. Now, I don't notice, but I keep my protein much higher now. Try that.0 -
I've been lifting/working out for 15 years.
It doesn't matter what I do for a workout- if it's a solid workout I'm starving about 10 minutes later- it has never gone away LOL.
It's completely normal and it's one of the reasons I do not work out in the AM- I'd over eat- ALL day because of it. It's also one of the reasons I eat a large meal at 11 PM.0 -
Thanks for the replies everyone! Least it's normal hey lol.
I think I will stick to my PM workouts as they are working ok right now. I definitely need to stop eating so much junk and have better quality foods and include more protein. I crave the junk so much and try and work it in to my calories.... but it isn't filling at all!
So I am thinking rather than my usual chocolate / crisps after dinner treats, I will try oats made with some protein shake that I have. Hopefully will still satisfy my sweet tooth but be much more satifying and filling.
For breakfast I tend to have cereal. Would I be better with a protein based breakfast? Maybe omlette or something?0 -
Of course.0
