Low calories, high sodium

How does sodium effect weight loss, I am nearly always atleast 500 cals under deficit and alot of times I kinda overestimate my intake just to be sure I am being legit, though alot of times my sodium levels are almost double the goal. How does this effect weight loss?

High sodium intake can lead to greater water retention, but other than that, it doesn't.

I just read that it could actually lead to high blood pressure, kidney failure and heart disease. It is really important to understand how dangerous too much salt is. It would be worth an internet search for you. Good luck!
  • It can cause horrid water retention- and it isn't great for your blood pressure. There's a difference between naturally occurring sodium in foods and added salt. I personally don't think you should add any salt to foods, or at least minimal amount.

When I first restarted this process I was eating a LOT of sodium. I was going to the gym 5 days a week and most of the food I was eating was frozen / instant foods with high sodium. After almost 2 months I hadn't lost a SINGLE pound and was frustrated. So I changed my diet to fresh foods to see what it would do and removing the sodium caused me to drop 9 pounds in 3 days.

So yeah.. I avoid going over on my sodium as much as possible. It happens sometimes but it shouldn't be daily.
