Where is my motivation?

Hello...
I've been overweight for the past 10 years or so and dieting makes me miserable! I’ve given a few honest tries at losing weight but gained it back each time and I just don’t want to do it anymore! (I currently weigh 250 lbs at 5'9")
I know that the motivation has to come from within but I can’t seem to find what will work for me. I got married in June and even the thought of thousands of pictures from angles that I wasn’t going to be prepared for didn’t make me do a thing about it.
Yesterday I was told by my Doctor that I have high blood pressure, high bad cholesterol, low good cholesterol and high uric acid and have three months to turn it around or it’s medication for life and I still find my self thinking I can deal with it later…
What is wrong with me?!

You are just like alot of us. But YOU MUST find the desire to change. I am 5'9" also and weigh 225.currently. My motivation was how horrible I looked in pictures. I could not believe how bad I looked. I also want to be healthy and be around a long time for my kids. My advise is to find supportive people like MFP and GO FOR IT! You are worth it!!!!!0

What kind of diets have you tried? Perhaps the changes were too drastic?
Maybe start small - eliminate one thing at a time, maybe soda, fried foods, or candy...
Small steps like that make a difference.0 -
Sound like you are unmotivated. Simple as that. But you can get motivated. You can try taking small steps first (eliminating sodas, sodium, etc) and work up from there. The whole thing is feeling overwhelming to you right now and and you just don't have the drive to cope. So try small steps and as you achieve them, you will feel more motivated to try more challenges. I hope that suggestion helps some. I was there once, now the whole experience has become positive and not so daunting, even when the scale is not my friend.
Hoping for your success!0 -
I agree with the others. Try small steps first. In addition to changing small things in your diet, instead of telling yourself you want to loose fifty or sixty pounds, start out small..like ten pounds. Then once you loose that ten, set your goal for ten more, and so on.
And remember: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with one single step"-Confusious.0 -
As the saying goes, "Ya gotta wanna." Without motivation, why would anyone do anything?
Since you've joined MFP, let curiosity motivate you to track what you eat now. Don't be judgmental. Just track it. Motivation will come "one bite at a time."0 -
Do you and your DH want children? That was what finally made me change my ways. As an obese woman struggling with infertility, doctors don't take you seriously or tell you to lose 10% of your body weight before they will even talk to you. For us, that was the wake up call that we both needed to get healthier. I would do anything for my future children, including giving them a healthy and happy mommy and daddy.0

Okay I could be totally off track here but I'm just going to offer a suggestion because your talk of "no motivation" really hit home with me. Did your Dr. do any blood work on you when you were there? Have them check your TSH level. Last fall I was feeling like you, no motivation to do anything, tired all the time , no energy. I happened to have a Dr. apt. in December and my Dr. (unknowingly to me) had done some blood work and did a TSH test and I was at 16! A normal TSH is like 0.34-2.50 Mine was way off. It meant my thyroid gland was practically non-existant! So she ordered some medication and I went to see an endocrinologist. Now like I said, this may not be your issue but you may want to double check on your TSH levels. Thyroid Stimulating Hormone=TSH. Good luck my friend! It sounds like your health should be reason enough to start changing things:) When I struggle I always remind myself I'm doing all this for my health too, not just so I can look better, I want to be around for husband, kids, family, friends, pets, etc!:flowerforyou: I do feel sooooooo much better and have much more energy and Motivation
Best wishes to you, This is a great site for encouragement and support, feel free to add me as a friend
