OK, so there's is this book called "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall and I highly highly recommend it! You can find a bit about the book here: http://www.chrismcdougall.com/book.html
In addition to the fabulous story and the amazing feats of a Tarahumara tribe, the author learns of an ancient recipe that the tribe uses to assist with their endurance. This concoction has been found to boost metabolism, replaces fat with protein and is the most natural energy drink in the world. It's made fairly simply and tastes pretty good. The point? It'll help you with your workouts, burn A LOT more fat than a simple exercise and diet plan would and make you feel on top of the world.
Here's the recipe for all that are interested:
It does look weird, but tastes great! Plus, it makes for some interesting recovery drink after a run.
To make 1 glass:
8 oz of water
2.0-2.5 teaspoons of Chia Seeds
1 lime to squeeze
2 teaspoons of sugar (or however much you want to sweeten the taste, I found two works best for me).
Mix water, sugar, and juice from the lime until dissolved. Add Chia Seeds and shake or stir. Serve it chilled.
The chia seeds turn kind of jelly/slimey, but you really don't notice it too much unless you're trying to chew the seeds. The drink is very refreshing and clean tasting. It also goes down easy and quick.
You can also help the chia seeds "melt" a lot faster by using boiling water and preparing the drink in advance. If you want to make a small jug og the stuff it does keep for about 24 hours in the fridge.
NB: This recipe calls for the use of sugar. The Tarahumara tribe uses honey in their concoction so substituting is no problem. If you are diabetic or have a sugar sensitivity, you can also use Splenda or something like that.
Chia seeds can be purchased at any Wholefoods or Natural Grocer (Health food shops etc) or you can get them (probably a little cheaper and in bulk) online.
I tried this after a particularly gruelling workout today and I feel amazing! Liquid gold!!!!!

I have been using the chia seed for several months now, I just eat a tbsp of the seeds for breakfast and lunch. I get them from a wholesaler for a fraction of the cost in the health food stores. Don't bother with organic or not, they are not prone to disease so they don't spray them, just charge you more. I might try the drink as it sounds refreshing. Thanks for sharing.0
