Why not have real mayo if that's what you like? No food is good or bad. Moderation is the key.

    thank you! g'ss

deprivation will lead you straight to failure- not to mention that modified foods are sometimes less healthy then the real version.

    Good grief.

Cooks' Illustrated likes Hellmann's (Best Foods) Light Mayo, scoring third behind "Blue Plate Real Mayonnaise" and Hellmann's regular mayo.

I think this is the point she is trying to make. She found something equally satisfying, but it has fewer calories. That way she can use those calories somewhere where something "light" just wont fit the bill. I don't believe she is setting herself up for failure at all.

Good job OP! Glad you found something you like!!

I actually prefer Best Foods Light Mayo over the full fat anyways. I like the way it tastes as well as it's texture. I will not buy any other kind of mayo again. Just a personal preference I guess. I also like avocado in place of mayonnaise sometimes.

Making a swap for a lower calorie item is not really deprivation. It would be different if she stopped mayo all together and got cravings for it and then went overboard on mayo.

Many organized diet programs from the medical community say to use "light mayo". I think its so you can see results faster and then learn hopefully to eat better. Also some of these patients need to lose weight for health reasons. Many people who want bariatric surgery have to lose weight before surgery. Not sure why you felt the need to use the light mayo. And I think if you like the light mayo well enough then your NOT depriving yourself. That would depend on you. But you could always use the those saved calories for something that would give you more satifaction and gratification since mayo IS just a condiment. Or learn to use less too. Good luck!

I wish that I could use the light mayo. I've tried Hellmann's, but apparently I'm a mayonnaise snob - I can tell the difference, even when it's in recipes. :frown: For me, I'd rather not eat it at all than go to the low-fat version, I guess.

My husband convinced me to try the one with olive oil in it, so we'll see how that goes.

Always good when you find something you like. The Greek yogurt/sour cream swap works for me, sometimes the yogurt tastes even better. I've tried cream cheese made with Greek yogurt (there's a brand here at the Giant/Eagle store) that's pretty good as well.

  • So happy you found something you like! I never used to but I like Miracle Whip now, if you can stand the stuff it's a little better than normal mayo :) I've never tried the light mayo, but I think I'll give it a go! :) Thanks for the tip!

Good work, I love tuna salad too! I was using real mayo but I just switched to Grey Poupon creamy and mild mustard, and it's also really good but a lot lighter. It says 0 cals but I'm sure it's something just negligible.
