Drop the Cardio?

hey,
So everyone is telling me to drop the Cardio and focus on weights and lifting.
I used to weight 216 lbs and went all the way to 185 I am 5.8 ft and my fat percentage is 18% according to measurement online.
I used to spend 40 mins - 1 hr on elliptical or bike and the same for weights and machines BUT I used to only use machines (fixed in place machines) and no dumbbells or free weights.
recently everyone started telling me to drop the 1 hour long cardio and just do more intense weights and strength training that is mixed with some cardio and with that you will lose weight.
My aim is to lose the weight (reach 166 lbs or 160) and get bulky I can spare 2-3 hours in the gym each day (5-6 days a week)
any suggestion guys?
