Hey! I'm new here!

I just had a baby a few months ago, and I'm ready to start losing some weight! I am technically at the same weight that I was prior to my pregnancy, but everything is flabbier and I am overweight! I was in the process of trying to lose the extra weight when I got pregnant, and it's time to continue that journey.

I'm ready to lose weight because:
I want to live a long life and be there for my child.
I have chronic health conditions that will improve if I am not overweight.
I'm getting married next year!

Also, I'm breastfeeding, so I need to do this weight loss in a responsible way so that my body is able to continue to make enough milk for my baby!

Anyone know of any groups on here for new moms or breastfeeding moms?

  • Welcome! Congrats on the baby and getting ready to lose the weight. I'm finally getting around to it (after two years). I don't know of any groups on here for breastfeeding moms, but I know there are a lot of new moms or moms of toddlers on here that will definitely be there to help you through.

Hey - I'm also a new mama. . .my baby will be 6 months at the beginning of October! Thanks to MFP, I'm down to 3 more pounds to get to my pre-pregnancy weight, then I'm looking to lose 5 more after that. I gained ~40 pounds when I got pregnant and I am claiming that breastfeeding helped me drop the first 20 of those.

Just a few things. . .I've found that the days I don't drink at least 64 oz of water, my milk supply is less. Not sure if that will be the same for you, but just in case. Also, just recently I found out that you can add breastfeeding through your food log. I am currently using 500 calories burned a day, but soon I will reduce that because we have started solids in addition to the nursing. I recommend eating at least 1700-1800 calories a day and possibly your exercise calories too. My milk supply also seems lower if I work out really hard. So, I've started the 30 Day Shred which is only ~25 minutes and I take long walks on the weekends with my baby girl.

Best of luck to you and I'm here to chat if you are looking for someone in the same boat as you!

hi! i am glad that you are getting healthy for you and your baby. i am currently bf my 6 mo and have a 2 yr old too. i just started (well about a month ago) trying to get back into shape and so far has been easier than ever. prob bc i am bf. so i have been staying within a 1600-1800 /day calorie range (eating healthy foods) and exercising 30 min most (5 days or so) days of the week (per my ob/gyn). if you like, add me as a friend and we can compare notes!

    Thanks for the replies!

And thank you sjyates for the advice! I knew I couldn't cut back my calories too much, but haven't quite figured out where that leaves me yet...this is a good starting point! Also I love that I can add breastfeeding to adjust my daily calories! Thanks for letting me know about that!

I gained 13 lbs when I was pregnant and lost them all pretty quickly. However, I was pretty sick throughout my whole pregnancy, so that kept my weight down! The docs weren't worried even when I lost 20 lbs my first trimester since I was overweight to begin with. So I guess I gained 33 lbs if you count the fact that I lost 20 and then gained them back plus 13!

And I definitely need to work on my water intake. I'm bad about that when I'm tired and go for caffeinated drinks instead!
