I guess I need to redefine my question... Do you count coffee as positive water intake, neutral, or negative since it is a diuretic?
You can log it towards your water intake if you want. The diuretic effects have proven minimal. It hydrates you pretty much as well as water does (as does black tea, or milk, or soda). So, log any cream or sugar to your calorie count and go ahead and click the water glass as well. I don't log water. I can tell when I'm hydrated.

I don't log anything that isn't water au natural as water, though I don't have any trouble drinking eight 8 oz glasses a day. In fact, I usually drink over 12, just because I never was much for juice and soda pop.

Caffeine is a very mild diuretic, and it is a myth that it dehydrates you to the proportions that people believe it does. If you regularly consume caffeine, your body develops a tolerance within 3-5 days, dramatically diminishing the already weak diuretic effects. Water as water is always your best option for hydration, but if you have trouble meeting your 8-12 glasses a day, you can count your coffee as water. I would suggest also adding coffee as coffee to your log though, just so that you are aware of everything you are consuming.

I log it as both water drank AND part of my breakfast, as I add things to it that have calories.

I don't. It has hardly any calories so I don't bother to log it.

I don't keep track of my water. I honestly don't understand the point?

To make coffee........one cup of hot water, 1 spoon of coffee.
If I was to drink the water and then eat the spoon of coffee I'd be logging the water right? So to me, theres no difference, I log the spoon of coffee and count the water as water. Thats what it is after all.
If i eat a sandwich and drink water at the same time, I still log them as seperate items, the water doesn't change into something else cos I ate a sandwich with it. The same goes for the spoon of coffee and the water as far as I'm concerned. Just my opinion of course............open to suggestions why thats not correct?

It is correct, and I don't understand what confuses people about this simple fact. I guess they never learned what a "solution" ie. solvent + solute or a suspension is in chemistry, therefore magic.

I don't log it. I drink milk with it though, so I include about a cup of milk in my log.

    Coffee.

I drink plenty of water, so I don't worry about any possible diuretic effects from coffee. I know I'm fine on the hydration front.

I am aware this is a fairly old post. But here is my solution:
As of hydration: Just top up an adequate amount of water depending on the amount of the (diuretic) coffee/tea intake. As of diet (calories): If you you drink a black coffee or tea - with little or no sugar and/or milk, just do not be worried about it. Free yourself a little bit.
    And MOVE! :-)

Log it as coffee. It counts toward your hydration but it isn't water.
