I just started back up with the site and know my eating habits are not good. Take out food is not good for me, or anyone for that matter. I know it's not healthy. Funds are so tight right now, we look for the 2 for $?? deals to at least have something to eat.

I was wanting to detox all these yucky things out of my system and start fresh on healthy choices. Does anyone know or have an idea where to find a detox using foods that I can look up or follow? I feel so icky eating the take out and want to get on the right track once and for all!!~ Thanks :)

Your body will detox itself, you won't need to buy anything.

    ^^Yep.

Just eat a decent amount of nutrient dense foods, add treats here and there if you wish.

That, and take out food is not bad for you. It's all about context.

Agree with all of the above.

If you want to change your eating habits, just start making small changes here and there. There's no need to detox from anything.

If you're feeling a little blocked up, just add some fiber and water to your regular diet. Pooping is the most satisfying detox I can think of.

if you're on that tight of a budget, you probably can't afford to buy a detox or cleanse kit anyway.

shop for things in bulk, buy on sale, use coupons, freeze meats and vegetables that you get on sale. fibrous vegetables, beans, lentils, meat, yogurt, water. bam - "detox." eat whole foods and limited boxed, pre-prepared, etc. foods.

What everyone else is saying. Your body will naturally detox itself. Also, just look for deals or use coupons at the grocery store. My wife and I frequently preplan our meals for the week around what is on sale. I also try to spend a lot of my money on lean meats (we do the club packages [3lbs or more at a time]) and then fruits and veggies. I find nothing better than picking up meet for $1.99/lb. I do the same thing with hamburger meat and ground turkey.

You don't need to waste money on a cleanse. Spend it on buying healthier choices as you can. Hopefully you've got a freezer.

Less is more - "Detox Kits" are generally just a way to clean your bank account. Keep it simple why eat more processed ingrediants in sachets that you likely don't need? Make sure you are drinking enough water, eat well and develop healthy habits and over time your body will be more energized, your skin will feel and "look" better. There is debate whether "Lemon Detox" - here I am just talking about a squeeze of lemon in water not the "TM" kits- Whether lemon does anything for "de-toxing" is unproven - but lets put that aside for the moment - Lemon are readily available (relatively cheap), low in cals - can make water more palatable and most would argue have some kind of potential benefits. Water travels through every part of your body and is used to supply nutrients and carry away the waste products - it is the most natural "Detox" you can get.

the only thing a detox is going to 'cleanse' is your wallet….

A lot of detox programs are just expensive ways to sell you two things you can buy for cheap on their own:
    Psyllium husks and probiotics.

If you are near a Trader Joe's you can buy Trader Joe's Secrets of the Psyllium for under 10 bucks for a months supply and yogurt or Kefir (great probiotic sources) for a few bucks and do a cleanse on your own.

I actually use both Psyllium and probiotics daily for gut maintenance. They help keep things "moving".

If you want to detox, just live your normal life, and do moderate exercise, drink ample water, and eat plenty of anti-oxidant containing food (raw fruits and veggies).

If you are stuck in a rut, and want to make a sudden break from your junk food, you can try doing a water only fast for 1-3 days.

Thanks everyone. I was thinking like normal food but the best option. I used to see a nutritionist and she gave me a great meal plan that worked wonderful. For breakfast for example was porridge mixed with berries and some other items to get the fibre in at the beginning of the day. Lunch I think was some type of salad with chick peas on it, to get more fibre and protein.

I'll do what I can to avoid take out. Eating at McDonald's and places like that cause me discomfort and blah feeling always. I entered yesterday what I ate and my sodium intake was over the allowed. And I only ate 2 meals. I seriously have like $50 if that to my name for a week. The one government system owes us more $ as they with held too much, and I didn't make much a few time with my main job I get paid weekly for. What I do have is to go toward gas for the vehicle and what cheap food we can find, which ends up being McDonalds :(

A cheap meal at McDonalds for 2 people is usually $15-20 dollars.

I made a lasagna last week (which is not cheap to make) at $40 for pretty much all ingredients. With that I made 1 13x9 inch pan of lasagna and 1 9x9 inch pan of lasagna. That is a lot of lasagna, we were still eating it a week later and pretty much had some every day.

Try googling for meals for under $10-20 dollars, or take a look at bulk items. Be sure to check the price point and unit price to find the cheapest items.

Make a meal with rice and dried beans, add some veggies and you have a nutritious meal, that wont make you feel blah.

I don't think you are looking for a 'Detox' for menu ideas for healthy nutritious foods.

Ok, so breakfast. Egg McMuffin is a good choice. A suggestion. Get Thomas' English muffins on sale, get a pack of canadian bacon, and eggs and you can make it yourself. 300 calories or so. Here in NY sometimes Egg McMuffs are 2 for $3.00. Now the Sausage McMuffs are my favorite but are a worse choice. The canadian bacon is the kicker....It's low calories in fat. OK, the nitrites are awful but that's another blog.

Lunch. McDonalds dollar menu chicken sammiches. OR, Buy a whole chicken and boil it. Seriously. Cook that f**ker and peel off the skin and the meat and you have lots of chicken meat to throw on a pile of lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers which you can get on sale. Celery is cheap-ish too.

Dinner. Um. let's see....Beans. I'm Dominican so I like beans. Well, that don't mean anything. Lots of people like beans, but Caribbean style is nice and tasty! Chick peas cooked with chunks of italian sausages (yeah, the sausages are fatty, I don't like them anymore) or eggs, or ground turkey with marinara sauce over pasta. Pasta is cheap. Better yet, learn to cook Quinoa or barley. Learn to eat that stuff. It's good for you and it saves money.

AshenRiver is right, Mickey Dees is friggin expensive. You're better off with the Subway 5.00 footlong.
