skimmed milk

hello everyone i have just been filling my food diary in for the day and realized i was over my sugar levels when i looked at where the sugar was coming from i reduced the amount of that food by half which reduced the amount of sugar but what astounded i buy asda smart price skimmed milk and in every 250mls of milk there is 13g of sugar i just carnt believe this can anyone tell me if this is a healthy sugar like what is in fruit or has it been added to give it flavour because it is skimmed if so is there an alternative which is fat free and sugar free thankyou for your help. marie x

Dairy milk contains lactose which is a sugar, albeit a naturally occurring one. If you want to cut it out you and don't mind experimenting with substitutes could always consider unsweetened original (unflavored) almond milk! 30 calories a cup and 0g sugars.

Unless you have a medial condition that warrants the monitoring of your sugar, I wouldn't worry about it.

I read this and though, woah that seems like quite a lot of sugar in milk, that can't be right! But according to the Asda website yes, there are 9.8g of sugar in 200 ml, which would make 12.25g in 250 ml.

However, this isn't added sugar, it's the natural sugars in milk - lactose is a sugar.

I wouldn't worry too much about your sugar count, especially if most of your sugar is coming from fruits, vegetables (and your milk!). Just stay under your calorie goal each day and you'll be fine :-)

I use the almond milk very calorie friendly and it is rich and thick. Really good on cereal.

Skimmed milk is like drinking caloric chalk water. No thanks. I don't really like milk, but when I drink it I go for whole milk. Almond milk tastes better than skim milk for the most part.
