Hard Boiled Eggs - HELP!!!

I like to eat 2 hard boiled eggs in the morning. I'm at work and I honestly can not recall if I hard boiled these eggs or they are raw.
I am paralyzed with what to do. Normally I crack them on the side of my desk and peel the shell. If they are in fact hard boiled this will not be an issue. If they are not hard boiled, this would be cracking a raw uncooked egg all over the side of my work area and getting on the carpet and myself. I would feel horrible for the cleaners having to try to scrub out that mess at the end of the day today. I don't feel like I can accomplish anything further at work or online today until I get though this.

If not knowing whether or not the eggs are actually hard-boiled is preventing you from working, then you should just go home.

    Your boss will understand.

I don't want to take a leave for this, or make a microwave mess. I know its a minor thing, but I just can't get past this. Its eggs and popping balloons. I can not deal with either. I'm starting to shake.

Ask a coworker for help *peeling* them.

    You win.

Spin one. If it stays sideways, its raw. HB will go upright

All you have to do is spin them. Raw eggs wobble while they spin, since their center of gravity keeps moving. Hard boiled eggs will spin smoothly.

But then if it falls on the floor and it IS actually a raw egg, he's back at square one!
    This is just not helpful.

This is why you don't spin it on the edge of a table. You're not spinning it for the olympics, just a quick test to see if it topples :)

Well, then if he catches it with too firm of a grip, it cracks and oozes out into his hand, through his fingers, and onto the floor. Then he AND his floor are covered in goo. This isn't ok either. OP, you're in quite the pickle.

spinning to get an egg upright on its edge seems like a lot of work. Is there an easier way?

Stick a pin in it, make a hole, and suck hard.
  • spin it. If it's boiled it will spin easily like a top. Because it's solid. If it spins only a couple of times or not at all then it's raw.

I spin to win or I don't spin at all.

Can you try piercing the shell with a pin? If you're careful, you should be able to do it without breaking the shell - that will tell you whether there's gunk or glory inside.

Otherwise, shaking it might work (raw eggs will sound sloshy. But if it doesn't sound sloshy, it might still be raw.) Or gently spin the egg on a flat surface (say, your desk) - a raw egg will wobble, a cooked egg won't. Double check, stop it with your finger, a boiled egg will immediately stop rotating and stay stopped, a raw egg will slow, then keep spinning if you lift your finger.

Your post is ineffective. If you read the page you'd see there are helpful suggestions. I posted it because I've tried a number of them.

    GTFO of my Monday. Thanks.
