Runners - what do you do during your run?

Listen to music, audio books, watch tv (treadmill) or just think? I'm curious. I've tried all of these and TV is definitely the best thing for me.

Music when outside, Netflix/shows on my iPad on the treadmill.0

"Listen" to music. I put that in quotes because I really tend to completely zone out during my runs; they're pretty much the only time when I'm not thinking... totally clears my head.0

This. I have earbuds in and music playing, but I tend to zone out as well.0 -

I listen to music and totally zone out. I zoned so bad this morning that i actually ran into a bush that is overhanging on the pavement! I had to spit some green out of my mouth! I can only zone outside though. I do hiil training once or twice a week at the gym and that is like punishment. I stare at the numbers slowly passing by =(0

I only run outside. I'm lucky enough to live in a rural area where I have lovely run route options. I look around me, enjoy the fresh air, listen to the birds. I don't get it when I see others in my area running with earbuds in when they could be listening to nature sounds! I definitely can understand earbuds if you're running in a city though-- the noises are not pleasant to listen to.
I do however sometimes ride a stationary bike indoors. It is boring to exercise inside, so I'll listen to music on my computer and look at magazines. I may also watch a video online, but usually I'd rather just listen to music and concentrate on exercising hard.0 -
I've found that I get kind of bored with the treadmil/tv setup, although it has been nice during cold weather!
I like to use the Zombies, Run! app because it mixes my music into a fun storyline.0 -

I can still hear the birds chirping away w music cause my musics real low0 -
I loathe running on a treadmill so TV is not an option for me as I would end up in hedgerows all over the county!!!
For me, I like to mix it up a bit depending on my mood. I do try and listen to podcasts though, as then I feel like I'm stimulating both mind and body at the same time AND sometimes concentrating on someone talking can distract from focusing on the not so good parts of the run, or can make me run further because I want to listen to the end of something.
Go with whatever works for you!0 -
I try not to die.
Listen to music and pay attention to my breathing; that's all I do.0 -
Mostly I listen to music while working out indoors. If I am running outside I will bring an iPod if I am running alone or leave it behind if I have company. Either way I tend to zone out completely while running so I don't even notice if the same song ends up on repeat.0

I can't do music at all. All I can focus on is "am I done yet??" I found that if I listen to podcasts or audio books, my mind gets totally wrapped up in what I'm listening to and the miles just click by.0

Nintendo virtual boy.

I practice speeches and debates.0

Listen to music, pay attention to my breathing, and try and decide when I'm gonna study or clean the house. (I'm not saying I have a dirty house or that my grades are that of a failure, but they could both use some attention.)0

Music while outside. TV while on the treadmill.0

I always listen to music because I measure the lengths of my run in 'songs' haha.
So say if I want to run a 5k I'm like, OK right that's only 10 songs - that's so easy to make through I can do that. And I don't know why but it really helps.
Also if I'm feeling like giving up I imagine Jillian Michaels next to me screaming "Unless you puke, faint or die KEEP GOING" and it works.
I've found your legs tend to be able to keep going as long as your mind does!0 -

I'm always outside (I live in San Diego) even our huge storm I was able to run outside. so it's music when i'm alone, but when I'm with someone, I just talk to them.0

If I'm on a treadmill I usually watch TV on my phone or on the gym TV's. If I'm outside, nothing.0

Music is on but if its going well I tend to completely zone out.0

On the treadmill I watch tv while listening to music.0

This
Not really, it's definitely this:
"Ok...breathe, there's a rock, ok...breathe, my ponytail is falling out, ok...am I breathing?, I think I know her, is this another hill?, ok...breathe...."0 -
I usually always listen to music, unless I am running a race, then I don't listen to music. I like to listen to other people...0

I often run just to zone out with the music often times blaring to the point of questionable onlookers that I pass. Running is for mental clarity not exercise. For me. And, music is one form of therapy whether I pay attention to it or not must be going to keep me in the right zone.0 -
No music if I am running on streets or in the country. Good time to collect my thoughts and pray. If I am on an outdoor track I "might" listen to music or listen to German language courses. I say might because usually I prefer running without something in my ears. I cannot run on a treadmill without collapsing from boredom.

Haha.. me too!!! I'm always thinking about what I'm going to eat after the run!0 -
I usually run by myself at 6 am , not a person to be seen. When I'm doing those runs i use my zombie run! app, it's great! it's got a cool storyline, and mixes my music in too. the KM fly by sometimes when i'm going to the gym ( usually with a friend) I'll use the treadmill, so i'll usually talk to them. though tbh, my treadmill runs are usually crank it up high and try and stay on, so i don't have much time to talk :P0

On the treadmill, I'll just watch TV or stare out the window. Outside, I count or sing a tune in my head to keep my pace as regular as possible.0
