Plan for Pregnancy

Prior to becoming pregnant I was doing really good. Eating well and exercising daily. I found out I was pregnant and due to some bleeding, my OBGYN suggested I tone down the exercising to something very low impact until after the first trimester. So I stopped working out as I was but continued eating well. As the pregnancy went on, my cravings became stronger. I didn't gain any weight in the first few months. I'm 29 weeks now and have gained 30lbs in the second trimester. Although I know weight gain is normal for pregnancy I want to be able to maintain this and not gain anymore in the next 10 or so weeks. So I have turned back to MyFitnessPal to help watch what i'm eating so I don't just turn to the pie my boyfriend brings home or the junk he eats. However, I'm not sure how many calories I should be consuming to maintain my weight but make sure my unborn child gets the nutrition she needs. I'm not looking to diet and lose weight at this moment (that will certainly come after) but just maintain for now. Anyone know what a good calorie intake would be for a pregnant woman, 28 yrs old, desk job, already overweight. Thanks.

It may be best to check with the dr but nursing moms are encouraged to add 300 cals to thier diet.0

^^^ This and 35-45 lbs is pretty normal for pregnancy weight gain. Have you decided to nurse or not? Nursing would help with getting your figure back and dropping the lbs but be sure to still maintain the added calories for milk production.0 -
One more thing to add. I know that a lot of people say not to worry about the actual calorie amount but to make sure you eat good foods. I do that, I just indulge on other things because it is ridiculously hard to ignore my cravings. I'm better when I plan based on eating well and calorie counting. I gained 50 lbs with my first and I really don't want to do that with this one. I know some people are prone to gain more than others but just looking for any advice that may help.0

Yes, I do plan on nursing. Just want to maintain this weight now as it is already getting really uncomfortable and my body can't afford to deal with any more weight. I have 10 more weeks to go.0

I would really suggest not counting calories right now & just focus on eating as many whole, high-nutrient foods as possible. Your body is under a tremendous amount of stress & losing a lot of nutrients. Be kind to it :-)
Also, an extra 300cal daily intake is the recommendation for nursing an older baby / toddler - 500cal for a newborn.0 -
I am in the same boat!
I used MFP for years prior to getting pregnant, and I figured I would allow myself to take a break. WELL, that was a bad idea haha. At my 22 week appointment, I have already gained 23 pounds. I am a bit overweight as it is, so my doctor recommended gaining no more than 15 pounds the entire pregnancy. I blew that out of the water, already!!
Im not going to "diet" but I am going to start tracking my calories again. I don't want to have any health concerns due to my weight, so I am going to get back to being more careful in terms of my "extras" and portions.0
