I have had quite a bit of knee pain stemming from IT band issues lately.
I have tried several different exercise and none have had much of an effect.
I recently found this webpage and my pain level has definitely decreased.

I missed about 6 weeks of running a few years ago and rehabbed with foam rolling, sports massage and glute / hip strengthening (my RMT was ahead of her time apparently...)
If you're also a cyclist it can also help having cleats that allow more float.0
