Hello all wonderful people out there,
I am a 29 yrs old IT Sofware professional (that means I hardly move my butt at work !!! ). I am 5 7'' and pear shaped (I hate that coz its so damn difficult to loss that flab from hips and thighs...)...I currently weigh around 106 kgs… I have always weighed more than 100 kgs since past 10 yrs or so.... My menstrual cycles were messed up big time and my body had a tendency to quickly put on weight..(Damn !! )
My gynac suspected PCOS and prescribed Metamorfin (to control insulin) and contraceptives to regularize my menstrual cycles...I have been on these medicines for last 3 yrs now… and have been trying to lose weight….Working out… Dieting… but every time I kinda gave up after one or two regular months.... Initially my weight would go off pretty easily and after a month or two.. the weight would start fluctuating.. I gained as much as 2 kgs in a day without even having a single bite of junk or fattening food... and that caused huge frustration and my fitness routine got disrupted every time....I have knock knees… so had a problem of sheen splint when I did walking on treadmill…Along with hormonal imbalance, work load, focus on career, no time for fitness routines and healthy diets…sheen splint just became one more addition to my list of “why I cant lose weight”…
I probably accepted that I will be obese for my entire life and tried to fool myself by thinking that not everyone has a perfect body.. I was blessed with a good life...a good career… great friends around.. etc etc… but somewhere in the corner of my subconscious mind I knew it wasn’t right….
I feel disheartened to go for shopping and not being able to buy clothes that I like… they either don’t fit me or don’t look good on my body…I can afford them but still cannot buy them… Only if I was lighter.. I could….
I loved to dance as a kid… I would love to learn Salsa and other dance forms… Only if I was lighter.. I could…
I was a basket ball player in my school days.. I so want to start playing basket ball again… Only if I was lighter.. I could…
I am Piscean by sign and love water.. I never learned swimming because I thought with this heavy body probably I can never learn to swim…
The list is endless… There are so many things I want to be able to do…
Eureka Moment!!
A very good and close friend of mine told me that…”You are a loser in life if you cannot get ur health right in spite of being successful in all other aspects of your life…He told me everything I had hidden in my subconscious mind but didn’t want to face it…” He was really rude and I kinda felt bad too… but then he motivated me to start a new regime and give my best to myself…If I can struggle through everything else in life and emerge out as a winner… why can’t I do this?? If there's no solution, there's no problem…
Rightly said, don’t compromise yourself, you are all you’ve got….and I started my journey towards a better me…
Fortunately, David Lloyds is just next to my office…The very next day I joined the gym… and spoke to one of the personal trainers (highly recommended by the manager). We decided to have personal training sessions twice a week… and he decided to monitor my food diary for two weeks before he could recommend any changes…Things simply started falling in place..It was very convenient for me to be regular to gym because it was next door to my office… My personal trainer is an amazing person… very realistic and disapproves all these much hyped quick weight loss diets and programs… He believes in healthy diet and a good workout…He suggested me to start using myfitnesspal to track my food and exercise..
I find this website amazing… Great features… and really handy to update my diary from my mobile…Also for the fact that there are so many people on this website.. Who are really motivating and are always there to help you out… I started reading a lot about fitness and started with my fitness routine…I also decided to put myself off contraceptives and test if regular workouts and diet would help me regularize my menstrual cycle.
I have been working out for past two months now… As of today:
1) I have lost around 7 kgs in past two months…( I know I can do better.. and I will )
2) My menstrual cycles are regular since past 3 months now (without contraceptive pills)…Yiepiee !!!
3) I have dropped one dress size. (not bad)
4) I have started learning swimming…It will take sometime for me to learn to swim but I m sure I will…..
5) I feel very positive and optimistic. My health is the highest priority in my life at the moment.
6) I feel much determined this time and wont give up my routine for anything under the sun.
On the way towards better me:
1) I want to be ready for summer next year… I want to be able to wear all those wonderful summer dresses without feeling conscious about my body shape…
2) I want to learn Salsa and other dance forms…
3) I plan to visit my parents in March 2011.. I target to reduce around 25 kgs by then and surprise them because along with me even they had lost all the hopes that I will be able to lose weight ever …
4) I want to be off all these medicines and have a healthy life and a fit body.
5) I want to be able to help and motivate others to march towards better life.
6) Find the love of my life and have a wonderful life with him….
I acknowledge the fact that it is not going to be easy but I am certain that it will be worth at the end.. I surely think I can do it and I surely will do it!! I am sure you all will help and motivate me to achieve my objectives…I will keep you posted about my progress and I am sure this rollercoaster ride with few highs and few lows will be fun….
Luv n Hugs,
SKB

Wow, the blog I wrote just this morning echoes so much of what you've written here, maybe not in so many words, but along the same train of thought -- we must work on changing our mindset right along with changing our bodies for the better. It's a whole self-confidence thing. I'm so happy to hear that you've found the resources and people that you need to help you along in your journey. MFP is certainly great for finding support as well. I've met so many people on here in the few months that I've been here, and even though I don't know many of them in real life, they're just as supportive of me as my own family and friends. It's great!! Welcome to MFP and very best wishes on your fitness journey!! Feel free to send me a friend request if you like. I love meeting new people and having a large group of like-minded people that I can count on for mutual support.

GEEK LOVE! Good for you with the working out, does it get easier? I only started working out this past week and am trying to break up my workouts. I don't hate it, but wish I could do longer.
I want to run! I want to be a runner! Thats my goal! Next week I am going to begin that journy!
I can totally relate on the clothes! I really really really want a pair of skinny jeans with cute boots and a long button down shirt. But none of that will work on me now. I can't wait to go shopping! How about when we both get to our goal weights we online shop together? :happy:0 -
I'm glad to hear someone who sounds so much like me! My family has a history of type 2 diabetes. I want to break that cycle and break it so my kids don't follow. I too am in IT and sit still all day. Recently I joined the gym at the office and for the first few months made it in once every couple of weeks. This week I started a 10 week training program for beginners. I also started going to Weight Watchers meetings and tracking my food. The workouts are kicking my butt. I had a real moment watching myself do an ab work out in front of a giant mirror last night. I was in a low.
I woke up this morning and noticed my just washed pants weren't tight! OMG! It's working!! I wanted to dance around the house! My husband introduced me to this website and I'm excited to find a community of others going through this same journey in life.
My goal is to run a 5k by the end of 2010. I might be slow and I might be jogging not running but I will do it. Anyone else up for that challenge?0 -
Welcome to MFP. I also have PCOS and am trying to lose weight.
I came off the metformin in July of this year as I am no longer trying for children and there is now some doubt as to it's efficacy in PCOS. Medical opinion is now that it should only be taken for a maximum of 2 years. Weightloss and a healthy diet alone will continue the job of metformin. And you would be free of it's nasty side effects - very few people escape them so i am sure you know what I mean.
With the shin splints, this is actually caused by the muscles in the calf rubbing over each other. Make sure that you warm up by rotating your ankles both clockwise and counter clockwise and stretch out the calf muscles also before exercising and you should find this diminishing.
Well done on your loss so far and good luck with the rest of your journey xxx0 -
