Completely different suggestion. What about pittas? I get warburtons pitta halves. They're big semi-circle pittas, easy to stuff and only 85 calories each. I stuff them with meat/fish, sauce, salad and often a little cheese. My absolute favourite is making my own nandos chicken pittas. They may seem like a lunch thing, but they're great for dinners too.0

i love white rice, and i dont think its totally nutritionally stripped/horrid. eat your 3 cups, as long as it fits into your calorie goals, and you are still in a deficit.0

as long as you maintain your calorie deficit and are not blowing out the carbs ever day then you should be fine …
or just scale it back to 1.5 servings for dinner…which will cut your intake in half…
there is nothing "bad" about white rice...

I agree she shouldn't blow carbs out but there are much cleaner carbs to eat, like from vegetables not starch. Plus she asked for alternatives.0 -
Maybe you were prefer brown basmati or brown jasmine. Or maybe you'd prefer whole wheat orzo or whole wheat couscous. Rice is great but it's not the only grain out there. Maybe you'd prefer brown rice in a steamer, rather than made in a pot. Or maybe you'd like the convenience of instant brown rice.
Or - and this is radical - maybe you'd prefer to take your 3 cups rice, and sub one cup wild rice. Or a third cup barley or quinoa or something else .....
Have a look at the grains in your grocery store. Trader Joe makes interesting grain mixes to buy - or invent your own!0 -
That was me when I first started: white rice and white bread.
It took a lot of discipline but I was finally able to cut it out. once in awhile, I'll splurge and eat some, but I definitely don't eat it as a staple.
In its place is quinoa. I also tried brown jasmine, which I like. One other option is to first mix brown and white rice...to get a taste of brown and slowly supplement more brown with white...0 -
Try Rice Select Royal Blend. It has Texamati White, Brown, Wild & Red rice in it.0

Root of the issue is that OP thinks there is something inherently bad about white rice, which there isn't.
Whats not clean about white rice - Care to elaborate? What's wrong with starchy carbs?0 -

What's wrong is that she's eating almost 700 calories in rice per day, and she'd like to change that to something healthier. What's wrong with sharing ideas with her?0 -

There is nothing wrong with sharing an alternative substitute for white rice, it's just the idea of thinking there is such a thing as "clean" or "dirty" foods, thinking that if you eat "dirty" foods that it will ruin all your progress.0 -

You just proved my point further. Why isn't it considered healthy? I'm addressing the root of the issue.0 -

How are you eating 3 cups of rice? That's a ton of rice. I eat about a half cup in a meal?
I used to eat an entire pot of rice by myself for dinner... 6 cups maybe?... often. It's not that hard if you are a compulsive/binge eater/carbaholic like I was.
At my worst, i was eating 3 cups of rice at one sitting. Thats 450 gms of raw rice according to my kitchen scale:embarassed:0 -
thank you very much for all this options, I truly appreciate it and will definitively try them out!0
