I was doing pendelay rows at the gym today and I noticed that everytime I do this exercise, there is a lot of tension through my legs. This is from bending my knees slightly, bending over so that my body is parallel to the floor, whilst maintaining a straight back. Is this tension in my lower body bad?

No. They get really hard when you do them after squats. mine shake on occasion.

If there isn't tension, you're doing it wrong :)

While doing the lift? You are supposed to stabilize yourself so tension is expected. I am not sure how you would perform the lift properly without it.

You're doing it right. You have to be tight in the legs and back to maintain posture while performing the exercise.

So you know how when you deadlift, you start with the bar over the middle of your foot?

When you start a pendelay row, where should the bar be in regards to your feet? I think it feels the best when it is directly over my toes.

Foot positioning should be about the same as with deads, so bar at about the middle of your foot

Depends on bodily proportions. I always had the bar out in front, at my toes or beyond. Otherwise I'd hit my knees with the bar.

It should not be as close as for deads. The bar should be nearer the end of the toes. You levers will determine how near.

Good video, but the guy isn't rowing to his chest!

Agreed - but it is not necessary as long as you have a good ROM.
