Is a good idea to take water pills?

Should i regularly take water pills or at least once to a few times a week to help get rid of excess water my body is retaining?

No, it doesn't make a difference.

Your body is retaining fat, not water. You don't need pills, you need exercise and a calorie deficit.

If you Dr. didn't recommend it then no! Drink water! If you are drinking enough water and watching your sodium level you will pretty much have control over water retention. When you retain water you are not eating correctly (high sodium) and/or not drinking enough water. Drugs are not good for you, and water pills tell you to limit usage.

No!! Not unless you actually have heart failure and your doctor is specifically prescribing and monitoring it.

Besides, even if water pills *did* get rid of your excess water weight - it will do nothing for the extra fat that you're carrying around. It's much better to take the slow and steady road of exercise and portion control and watch your actual body composition change for the better.

If you're truly concerned about the water weight, track your sodium and drink a bit more water on a daily basis (even here there is no need to go crazy - food has a lot of water in it already).
Best of luck to you! Please don't take any un-prescribed diuretics!
