Help! I want to start strength training regularly

I've been on a weight loss journey for almost a year now, and I want to get serious about strength training in addition to my cardio workouts. (I clearly should've gotten serious about it a year ago). I do various activities for cardio including Zumba, dancing, tennis, and walking. I recently started doing Bob Harper's weight loss yoga also. My question is, is the yoga enough of a good start in strength training or should I be lifting too? I recently had to cancel my gym membership due to distance and school, so I'd like to do my strength training at home. Should I buy barbells or kettle bells? Or can I stick with Yoga? Or should I be doing something else?
As you can see, I'm all over the place. Thanks for any help you guys can give me.
Edited to add that I'm 258 lbs and only 5'1".

I would start with body weight exercises. Push ups, planks, dips on a chair, squats, lunges etc. Once you get comfortable with it, perhaps buy some dumbells. You can gain a lot of traction with body weight exercises.
Look for Fitness Blender on You Tube. Lots of good workouts to do at home.0
