Australian DEXA Scans???

Hi,

I'm seriously considering getting a DEXA scan so I can see my current bodyfat percentage and then do another once I reach goal so I can see exactly how much progress I've made (aside from the obvious physical changes...)

I have a couple of questions:

* The first question is how long does a DEX scan take, and what is the process involved? (i.e. do I have to fast before hand, do they use contrast etc etc)

* The second question is for Australian members only - if you've had a DEXA scan, how much did it end up costing you?

Thanks for anyone who responds.

I had a DEXA scan done in Melbourne last year. The scan itself took about 5 minutes. You just lie down still and the machine above you moves around above to do the scan. Really simple, you don't need to fast or anything and you remain fully clothed.

Afterwards you'll have a consult and they will discuss all the results with you. It was really interesting and insightful.

It cost me $100 for the scan itself, but the consultation part of the appointment with the doctor was bulk billed.

I put on some of the weight I had lost after the scan and am currently working on losing it again. When I get back to my goal weight I will have another scan to see if I lost any muscle with the yoyo dieting.

If you've got the cash I would say it's definitely worth it. You get so much information

Thanks. I've been wanting to get one for ages. I've already lost 20kg (pre-MFP) and would love to see how I'm going. I'm sure my body fat scales are really not all that accurate and would like to get a really correct/clear reading.
