I was never one of those athletic kids - quite the opposite - I grew up in a area with no sports facilities , nothing at school and never had a bike - I walked everywhere but thats about it. I was always overweight.
As I past 40 I realized I had to do something about my weight - I started watching my food and joined a gym - I went from walking on the treadmill at the far end of the gym behind a post so no one could see me to running a marathon and becoming good friends with a number of trainers. I went from 225lb to 160 lb
Then - life threw me a pretty bad curve ball and I struggled for a couple of years found running mentally harder and harder and eventually stopped I regained a lot of the weight I lost - In Jan I decided enough was enough and started eating better again - I had been keeping up with my weight training and started getting back into heavy kettle bell work - hitting a goal of snatching the 50lb bell for 10 reps - I still feel way out of shape but moving int he right direction, I never saw myself at an athlete. Last week I was approached and asked to join a competitive kettle bell lifting team - The coach said he had seem me working out and I was clearly athletic and thought I be a great additional to the team - I was totally floored and still getting my head round someone seeing me as an athlete.
I guess the moral of the tale - never too late to start - and even if you get derailed - you can get back on track and keep moving onward !
