Only 15 pounds

I feel really bad when I tell people I only need to lose 15 pounds. Allot of my friends need to lose at least 40 or more.
But this fifteen pounds is killing me. In the last three months I have stopped eating any kind of snacks whatsoever. No chips, popcorn, crackers, cheese, nothing. And I can not get this weight off.
I found this sight yesterday and downloaded the app to my phone.
I have always had a fast metabolism, back in the day. I fought to gain weight. At 5ft 1 it was a struggle all my life to stay over 90 lbs, so as you can imagine, fighting to lose weight is new to me, and I apparently am not very good at it.
My husband and I started power walking 3 1/2 miles 4 times a week and the only thing that has changed is that at least my weight has stopped going up.
I read about a 5:2 diet, what is that?
I don't want fads or quick drop diets as I feel that I will just be right back here again one day.
I used the app yesterday and input everything that crossed my lips, right down to the creamer in the coffee. I stayed under my goal for calorie intake and it says it will take me five weeks to lose three and half pounds at that rate. That's kind of slow isn't it?
Anyway, I am here and I am trying.

Well since you ony have 15 lbs to lose you want to lose it slow (so about 0.5 lbs a week). The less you have to lose the less room you have to create a deficit without cutting out calories essential to your bodys proper function. Keep logging (make sure you get a scale to measure foods accurately if you do not) and you should see some results. Logging every little thing seems tedious but that is the right way to do it. With a smaller deficit you have to be as spot on as possible becuase its easy to accidentally eliminate it (the deficit) with a little extra creamer or other small items.
As for the 5:2 diet there are alot of people on here who support and have had success with intemittent fasting. I personally do not have much knowledge about it except the general idea, but if you use the serch button (on the community page right above all the listed forums) I know I have seen some really good threads on it. Make yourself a few friends who have been successful and they can help you out with it if you are interested.0 -

As you get closer to your goal weight, the weight is going to come off slower. It is going to be more difficult. I'm getting closer to my goal as well and .5 lb losses are totally reasonable with just 15 lbs to go. I'm not sure of your calorie goals or what exactly you're eating but you can try changing it up. Eat 100 cals more or less as long as it isn't below 1200 or so. Exercise more or less and make sure that you are weighing everything you eat on a scale. Measuring foods and liquids with measuring cups can be very inaccurate depending on how tight you pack it.
I don't do the 5:2 diet but from what I have read it is eating at a certain calorie goal for 5 days out of the week and then eating only 500 calories for two days of the week. It creates so much of a deficit in what you are eating. Some people do something called intermittent fasting where they eat their goal calories between an 8 hour window and 16 hours of the day they eat nothing which includes the time that you are sleeping. You just have to find something that works for you!0 -
Yeah, I'm thinking the 5:2 doesn't sound like anything I would want to do. LOL
My main reason for wanting to shed this 15 lbs is because PB, (hubby) is five pounds from obese. He's very sensitive about it and the only way I can figure how to help him is "leading by example" I love that man and the more weight I see him gain, at our age, the more I worry about him not being around. It has affected his sleep apnea and many other areas of his health. He is my main reason for doing all of this.
Well, and those 6 grandbrats who wouldn't know what to do if I couldn't keep up with them ;0)
I firmly believe that slow and steady will be the way to go and that will work for both of us to not end up back out of shape later.

15lbs is 15lbs...
As for how to do it well you are on the right path.
Remember this weight loss come from a deficet in calories and the fact you stopped gaining by adding in exercise means you are maintenance now...
MFP will give you the calories you need to lose your weekly weight...just make sure you set it at 1/2lb as that is as fast as you want with the amount you want to lose.
Log everything...acccurately...by that I mean continue with logging what you eat but buy a kitchen scale and weigh solids, measure liquids...and choose the correct entries...to do that check the nutrional values against the package, try not to use the ones with homemade or generic in them...along with anything that starts with an asterik...if you can't find an entry create your own and then you have it for you use under "your foods".
If you do that you will lose weight as long as you stay in goal...
As for exercise...that gives you extra calories to eat...because MFP has already given you your deficet to lose...so log your exercise and eat back some of those calories...because the estimates are high here...for example my HIIT workout burns between 164-252 calories...wide range...but MFP says it burns 274 because MFP doesn't know what sort of circut training I am doing.
Good luck to you...and be patient...don't expect this to happen fast...30 weeks...at 1/2lb a week...maybe a little less with some weeks where you might lose 3/4 of a lb...or more if you have a big week of celebration or vacation.
Don't cut out foods you love...just eat smaller portions...make this the way you will eat forever...not just till you lose the weight or you will gain it back...make is sustainable.0 -
We are in a similar situation. My goal was to lose 17 lbs when I started following MFP at the beginning of January. Since then (just over 2 months), I lost 9 pounds. But now I'm at a bit of a standstill, if just barely losing. I'm trying not to let it bother me, as all the experts on here say this is normal. It is kind of annoying, but keep positive in the knowledge that you are still losing, albeit slowly. To do it healthily and the right way, unfortunately thats just the way it goes.0

I know the feeling. My initial goal was to lose 21 pounds. I lost 15 of that. It does slow down and is way hard. It's hard work no matter of age, size, gender, etc. But you got this!! Good luck!0
