I don't know if I exercise too much but this has been my recent workout schedule:

    Minimum Workout Time: 65 minutes
    Maximum Workout Time: 120 minutes
(I do one workout class every day but tomorrow, for example, I'm doing cardio kickboxing plus cardio cabaret, which is two hours of pure cardio).

I workout 6 days a week Monday-Saturday. Saturday is my light day, I do pilates and light step aerobics.

When I first started, I couldn't do thirty minutes of cardio. Now I find thirty minutes too easy and if I don't do an hour minimum, I feel like I'm wasting my time.

I'm curious to see what everyone else does.

You don't necessarily have to increase your workouts. You do need at least one or two recovery days per week, so 5 days a week will give you that.

Everyone have different goals that they would like to achieve. Some are here for weight loss, some are to live a healthier lifestyle, some are here because they have athletic goals to achieve. So everyone's workouts will be different based on their goals.

As for how long each person works out, that not only depend on their goals, but also it depends on their intensity while working out and the results that they are going for. It would also depend on the availability of time for each person as well.

In short, no one can really tell you if you need to increase your workouts, only you can based on your exercise abilities, your goals, and the time that you can devote to your workouts. Do what is best for you and listen to your body.

As for me, I'm pretty hardcore and am extremely active, but that is the lifestyle that I enjoy and have chosen. Yet even with that, I take at least one to two days off per week so my body can recover.

Monday morning -weight lifting for an hour. Evening - Boot Camp then 1/2 hour on treadmill.
Tuesday morning - weight lifting for an hour. Evening - Kick Boxing for 90 minutes.
Wednesday morning - off. Evening - Boot Camp then 1/2 hour on eliptical or bike ride outside.
Thursday morning - weight lifting for an hour. Evening - Kung Fu training for 2 hours.
    Friday - OFF
Saturday - most likely a snow shoeing trip in the winter or hike in the spring and summer as I facilitate a hiking club.
Sunday - OFF or some kind of activity like swimming or a tennis match.

    Ya'll so nice!

I don't know if I'm doing great but exercising is my way of getting out of the house. My boyfriend and I are together all day and if I don't leave the house for a few hours, we'll kill each other :)

But when you have fun classes like cardio cabaret you have to go! Two weeks ago, we used feather boas and last week we used chairs for our sexy dances. Tons of fun!

Nothing better than shaking your butt and doing pelvic thrusts for warm-up exercises :)

I intentionally exercise 4 - 5 times a week and this is either elliptical 40 mins , jump rope and stair climbing 45 mins interval or jog up and jump hills 30 mins.

The rest of my exercise comes from walking the kids and the dogs approx 1 1/2 hours a day every day. I just couldn't fit any more time into my day without seriously neglecting the kids and the housework.
Ok so I want to lose weight but not at the expense of my family so what I am trying to say if thats all you have time for then just go for it enjoy your little ones when they are young they will be grown up quick enough so don't miss a single minute exercise is important but don't get too obsessive there is more to life.

Heres one to enjoy with the kids run around the park with it doesn't matter what you may look like be the oversized 2 year old make going for a walk a daily treat your older child will probably enjoy the interesting things you can come across when out and about my 3 yr old walks with me everywhere so has a strong pair of legs we go and look at boats and birds and anything that she takes an interest in I will miss her company when she starts preschool in sept. Play tag and hide and seek dance around the house like a loony kids are the very best exercise and I hope that by keeping my kids fit and healthy they will never go through the torture known as being overweight.

Oh yes and I too keep my weekends exercise free it is my time to enjoy life.

I do cardio 3-4 times a week 40-60 minutes (bicycle, elliptical or treadmill)
and weight training 2-3 times a week (gym exercises ~30minutes or shape workout which I actually turn into circuit by running, jumping or riding a bike between exercises to keep my heart rate up for ~50 -60 minutes)

At the gym I do some form of cardio about 30 minutes, usually 4 times a week. And free weights 4 days a week, usually for about 30- 60 minutes a session.

But at home I go for a 4- 5 km walk in the evenings. So lots of cardio. I am surprised because I actually enjoy it now.
  • I'm doing 4 - 5 times a week at the gym. A gym session consists of mainly cardio, 50 minutes in total and i do resistance training in between cardio machines. Excluding weights a gym sesh burns 1000 cals

I do 90 min a day and what I do depends on what day it is. Some days are doubled up due to I run everyday....most runs are 5 miles however, I do take 2 light days and only do 2 miles. I also do Yoga, kickboxing, zumba and weights and odd little things like crunches etc....
The everyday thing is my compulsiveness about it..

I do at least 45 minutes Monday through Friday of cardio-usually a DVD first thing in the morning. M-W & F I do weights for about 20 minutes. Since spring, I also walk a mile in the morning and a mile in the evening with my 5 year old riding his bike. On the weekends, I do yard work and walk.

I go to the gym Tues, Thurs, Sat and Sun.....I am up to 60 min (55 min workout and 5 min cooldown) on the elliptical, random setting, level 18. I also do strength training those days. On the days I don't get to the gym, I try to do squats and lunges and leg lifts and other strength moves at home.

I know I need to change things up a bit for the cardio...and am trying to figure out what to do other than the elliptical. At least one of the days. I just love the elliptical. At my gym, there are individual TV's on all the machines and I just zone out and exercise. Watching the news tends to pi$$ me off enough that I work even harder!

I don't know how y'all have time to do all that. I'm doing like 30-45 minutes of running/walking 3-4 days per week + weights for 20-30 minutes 3 times per week.... and I still feel like it takes up all my free time! I can't imagine going all the way to the gym, too.

It depends on the weather & "homelife".

On a good day, I would go out running/walking for about 20-40 minutes.
Stationary bike for about 30-40 minutes.

If I do Tae bo, it'll be for 45 minutes or so and the same with Turbo Jam.

    I'm a 6 day a week person...
    typically
    Monday - run 60 min + weights 60 min
Tuesday - preswimming workout (stretching, calisthenics, weights) 60 min + swimming 60 min
    Wednesday - run 60 min + weights 60 min
Thursday - preswimming workout (stretching, calisthenics, weights) 60 min + swimming 60 min
Friday - gym preswimming workout (stretching, calisthenics, weights) 60 min + swimming 60 min
    Saturday - run/bike 80 min + weights 60 min
with Sunday or another day off. In general, I hate days off as I don't feel good.

I guess I am pretty hard core but I race in swim meets and in open water swimming races (I'm still slow though  even with working out as much as I do). Starting in May and the opwn water races starting in June, I'll start two hour swimming sessions another 2/3 days a week a lay off weights and running a bit.

I think that the amount of time you put in depends really on what you are doing. I mean I can spend three hours like last night weight lifting but really I am only part of the time doing some serious lifting; in between, I am chatting with a friend and taking it easy.

So, I guess if you LIKE working out it's easy to spend a lot of time doing it; if you have some specific goals you've got to match up the parameters of activity, intensity level and time and then you'll have the "right" match theoretically at least.

I found max results for me with cardio everyday (5/6 days a week, 60 min) and weights for 60 min 3xs a week.

I am with you Keri! I feel like a total slacker! I have kids playing baseball 4 days a week so after work all day and then their practices, I am lucky to get to the gym 3-4 days a week including weekends.

I always do Monday Body pump and 3-4 miles treadmill, tuesdays off, wednesdays - spinning (1 hour with abs), thursday off (generally I will run at home 3-4 miles), friday - varies depending on schedule, saturday body pump or yoga, sunday - depends on what I did on saturday.
  • Well... Due to my weight and condition of joints and my poor feet, my Dr. has instructed me to stick to no impact cardio until I reach the 250 lb mark. So as of now Im doing walking or elliptical daily , 7 days a week, because I can only make it 20 minutes at a time .... then Im in tears. Working on getting orthotics for my shoes so hopefully soon I'll be having much less foot problems and can up my time on the elliptical.

walk, 40 minutes (to and from the gym for the pump class)

3 days a week, 30 minutes high intensity resistance including 5 minute warmup on Treadmill & 4 *specific stretches after

2 days a week Treadmill ~ 25 minutes Low Intensity (pushing myself but something I can sustain for 10 minutes +) plus 5 minutes Moderate Intensity (pushing hard to get 5 minutes). First parameter to push is incline then start challenging by increasing speed. UGH! and ending with 4 *specific stretches after

*(specific to some areas I have where the muscles are just too tight and require some stretching to improve overall flexibility)

Weekends are reserved for "pleasurable" activity ie. a hike, bike ride, swimming etc.

    This is my STARTER Program.

    Gotta keep it movin!!!
